Acute Necrotizing Ulcerative Gingivitis
Acute Necrotizing Ulcerative Gingivitis (ANUG) can cause the gum infection to spread all across the area, including the bones. The infection can quickly ravage the gum tissue between your teeth, and destroy it. This leads to your teeth becoming loose, and it may even fall off. ANUG can also leave you with severe halitosis (bad breath). In extreme cases, gangrene can also set in as a result of ANUG. Here, the infected gum tissue turns black, and eventually, you will begin to notice numbness in the area. This can have very destructive health effects. The dead tissue may have to be cut away to prevent the infection from spreading, and you may also need reconstructive surgery to rebuild the tissue.
