Gap In Between Front Teeth

To the two dentists here I wanted to ask you a question.

I also have a gap between my front two teeth. Its not very big perhaps only quarter or a fifth of a cm wide but its something I want to fix.

I've had braces before (pretty poor job if you ask me since they didnt correct the gap) so I dont want to go down that route again especially since all my other teeth are ok, nor am I keen on veneers (something about losing my own or parts of my own teeth bugs me).

But I have read in other places that you can get some work done (I cant remember the name) but whereby the dentist 'fills out' the gap between teeth using some material/substance of some kind. Some people on the net have said their teeth looked completely normal after that. Is this a possibility at all for someone who has a minor gap such as mine? What are the pros/cons of such a treatment?

If your teeth are well aligned, veneers would actually be ideal. I know you don't want to lose tooth structure, but when done well (which should be possible from what you describe), veneers actually increase strength of your teeth. Its when they are done poorly that its a problem.

It could be done with composite which is what it sounds like you are describing, but getting aesthetics correct is difficult and it will probably start to look stained very quickly.

Without a full consultation it will be difficult to advise further

Hi,

Was reading in this thread and thought I would ask a question as well as I have always kinda wanted to sort my gap out.

I dont really fancy braces as they are a bit out of my price range and the fact it could take 2 years to fix the problem doesnt feel me with joy..

Veneers sound good, but i do worry that in the future they would need replacing or if they broke or something, but i guess thats something to worry down the line.

Anyway, i do have a kinda large gap. I can even fit a 2p coin between them, heh. I just hate smiling because of it really.

Would veneers work? Would my teeth look abnormally large?

I live in Hastings, E Sussex - where would be the closest place i could goto?

You couldn't get away with just two veneers. You would either need train track style braces or 8-12 veneers to make this look right. If you just went for 2 veneers your teeth would end up looking short and stubby and just look plain wrong!

Personally I would recommend braces as this would do much less damage to your teeth which is obviously preferred.

umm.. I have a gap between my two front teeth and when I was in the tenth grade, I had braces but I had them removed right before my senior year in high school and I still had the gap. I mean I don't have that much of a problem with it but I do want it to be removed. And the space is not that big but I can fit any coin or utensil in it.

I was told that I can have surgery where they can close the gap in one day and all will be fine. I just don't know how much that would be. Do you know??

In addition, I was told that I could use something called Teeth Effects Bands that can close my gap within a short period of time. But I was also told that it may close the gap between my two front teeth but it can open two more gaps (spaces) somewhere else.

I want to close my gap but it must be cost efficient. The braces I use to have were very expensive and I do not want to go through that.

I really do not know where to turn to and if you have any suggestions, do tell??

Hi all

I am in a similar position with a small gap between my front teeth and have been told that I would need my top front 6 teeth veneered. Estimated cost would about about £3500, which unfortuately, is too much for me to pay in a lump sum. Doesn't anyone know anywhere that wuold spread this cost over 2 years? Alot of places seem to do 1 year but this would still put it out of my price range.
