cosmetic dentist or my regular dentist?

I had veneers fitted 13 years ago on the NHS (they were free as I was a student at the time). I was never very happy with them - they felt too big for my mouth, the dentist left lots of cement around my gums and they kept falling off! I now need to get them replaced (I have moved so have a different dentist.) My question is should I go to a specialist cosmetic dentist (and if so can you recommend one in Brighton?) or should I trust my usual dentist? If I have them done at a cosmetic dentist, will my normal dentist still be happy to treat me afterwards?

Hi I would strongly recommend going to a cosmetic dentist. However, remember that cosmetic dentistry in itself cannot be called a speciality. A good way of checking of how much experience a dentist has is to ask to see their portfolio.

Most good cosmetic dentists will have a large selection of photos of cases on their websites or in an album in their practices.

Many should also be a member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
www.bacd.com. There is a find-a-dentist section for full members and there is also an accreditation examination process going on.

Of course your own dentist may have a lot more experience with veneers than you think, but you should certainly not be afraid or embarrassed to ask!
