Is it possible to have your teeth whitened before having a fixed orthodontic appliance fitted?

My concern is that if there is any subsequent darkening of the shade (which I understand is normal with most systems) would be uneven due to the appliance being attached to the tooth surface?

Ultimately I am impatient and would not rather wait for my ortho treatment to be finished (around 18 months) before I get whiter teeth!

    Any comments gratefully received.

Yes it certainly is possible to whiten before having the braces, but you may need to wait two weeks before having the fixed brackets placed from finishing the whitening._ this is to help the brackets bond well.

You wil probably need another set of trays after the brackets are off to re-whiten.
