Discoloured tooth.

I have a discoloured tooth (to the right of my two main teeth). The discolouration is under the enamel therefore no amount of polishing or prophyflex will help. Would a veneer be my only option, if so would you recommend a porcelain or lumineer veneer?

I would recommend a dental examination to evaluate your options.

A lumineer is a type of porcelain veneer which is very thin. They are not really suitable for discoloured teeth. Of course there are other type of ceramics which would be more suitable for a discoloured tooth.

Hello and thanks for the reply.

I'm had an examination with a local dentist. He suggested the standard porcelin veneer covering my discoloured tooth. I however wasn't too keen on the idea off having injections and drilling, thus was hoping lumineers would be more suited. What other options are available in my situation?

Lumineers will discoulour around the margins very quickly, it is also very difficult to get a good aesthetic result. For veneer preparations you really shouldn't need any anaesthetic, the preparations are very minimal and you shouldn't even be able to see the preparation.

Depending on depth and type of discoluration, chemical microabrasion may be a more conservative option
