Default Better aligned teeth = Less grinding?

I have recently had some bonding placed on my front teeth and aside from improving my all round dental health I want to protect the bonding work.

The dentist who carried out the bonding noted that there was some evidence of grinding and that in time this could cause potentially severe problems for my teeth.

I realise that every case is specific to the individual and studies into bruxism/grinding are ongoing but is there the chance that if my teeth were treated with any kind of brace that
it could improve my long term prospects?

I'm in my early twenties and have never had any orthodontic treatment.

Thank you for any help.

Hello there,

Firstly it needs to be established why/ what is causing you to grind your teeth. This can range from general stress,to problems with your jaw joint, to interferences in your occlusion (how your teeth meet or just general habit. Once this has been established most likely by a process of elimination, then the problem can be dealt with.

If the cause of you grinding your teeth is caused by a premature interference in your bite, braces would definatrly help the situation and improve your long term prospects of your teeth and bonding.

You would clearly need a full detailed examination first.

I hope this helps

Kind regards
