Hi, I had braces when I was 11-13 and retainers after that. I am now 18 and my teeth are out of shape and I have a gap in my front teeth so I feel embarrassed to smile and I also feel self conscious. I was thinking of getting treatment again but I wasn't sure what to do or whether I should get braces or retainers. Also the cost of treatment is worrying as I am a student. I would be grateful for any advice as I haven't seen my orthodontist/dentist since I was 14. Thank you!

Hi
first of all I would recommend you go to a general dentist so you can have a full check up. This is very important as the health of your teeth and gums has to be ascertained prior to starting any type of orthodontic treatment. Some dentists offer orthodontic treatments at their practice. In more complex cases, patients have to be referred to an orthodontist. Your dentist should be able to advise you the best option for you after examining your mouth. Hope this helps Best of Luck Raha
