I have been told that I need a implant as that is my only alternative (except for a plate) as I have no molar to attach a bridge, I have been told also that I will probably need a sinus lift - which really scares me I don't like the idea that my sinuses will be affected.

Can someone reassure me about the sinus lift - and what are the statistics of something going wrong and that I will have permanent problems with my sinuses afterwards , it just sounds so invasive and scarey !

I am 47 years old....

I was told by the Budapest dentist that using a water pik/oral irrigator could compromise the cement that holds the tooth onto the implant or the bridge. Yesterday, the emergency dentist said that using a water pik was THE best way to clean them. 2 questions:-

1. Who is right?
2. Assuming the emegency dentist is right, which is the best one?

I note from doing a search online that people are saying that waterpik rechargeables are great until about the 6 monthmark when the rechargeable batteries die rendering the unit useless.

I see there is a magnetic one, its very expensive. Is it better than the other sorts? Could really do with some advice on this.

2 and a half years ago I went to Budapest to have extensive cosmetic work done. I won't go into details now (unless anyone wants to know). I had numerous extractions, bone grafting, sinus lift and 5 Camlog implants (3 at the upper front and 2 at the upper back) with more planned on my 2nd visit. The experience was horrific and I was too afraid to go back and finish the work so have lived with the temporary front teeth and only one back tooth ever since.

Last week the temps fell off and I had to find a dentist to fix them back on again. I am terribly phobic and the dentist who did the refit today was great. I am going to go back to see him next week to discuss if I can move my treatment forward. I never got to ask him (in my haste to get away!!) if its possible to finish off the already placed implants. From the xrays it looks as if they have healing screws on. Will he have to get abutments (?) from Camlog or will other makes of abutments fit? Or will they have to come out? PLEASE say they won't have to come out :(

Great site and forum by the way.

Hi there

I've just got back from having a front tooth implant - so far the dentist has only screwed the implant into the bone and the area is still numb but the pain is excruciating.

Is it normal to have this much pain so soon? I'm beside myself with agony and utterly miserable

thanks in advance

Crowns or Bridge

I have my four lower front teeth crowned. After losing 2 of these crowns and the peg on one of them breaking I was initially advised to have the four teeth re-crowned (I understand that root canal treatment will need to be done on the tooth that has the broken peg). It has now been suggested that extracting these 4teeth and having a bridge may be a better option.
Due to the fact that I have recently come through treatment for osteoradionecrosis (following head and neck radiotherapy) I am very concerned about going down this route and feel that the crowns would be a better option.
Any thoughts would be very welcome.
