Angry Pain after crown

Hi - I had a crown fitted three weeks ago. When the initial x-rays were taken, the dentist wasn't sure if I would require a root canal. She determined, upon removal of the old filling, that a root canal wouldn't be required. I went through the entrie crown procedure - temporary, then permanent. Now, I am having increased nagging pain in the tooth. I am going back to the dentist tomorrow, but I am curious if a root canal should've been done. And if so, will I have to pay for a new crown if it was her error - it was a lot of money, as I'm sure you know.
