What extra treatment will i need?

First post so here goes...

Currently i have 3 posts and crowns and one silver point crown(think this is correct term), the silver point crown was done 17 years ago. There my 4 front teeth, one of my post and crowns snapped off leaving behind most of the post in my original tooth, after visiting the dentists yesterday i was told i am been refferred to a specialist in this field. This is because my dentist was unable to remove the broken post left behind...

I had a chat about implants..i have done some research so now am aware of whats involved with fitting implants but my question is what would be needed to be done to my existing 4 front stubs of teeth? Is it a simple extraction or is there more to it..I ask because like many others i get very nervous when i am in the dentists chair.

Depending on what needs to be done, simple and gentle extraction is normally the best way forward in order to protect the bone into which the implants will be placed

Pav is correct that the extractions have to be done carefully so that the bony architecture can be disturbed as minimally as possible.

In some cases an implantologist may decide to place them immediately if the conditions are favourable. In other circumstaces , the sockets should be allowed to heal for 2 to 3 months to allow placement of the implants.

Thankyou for the replies most helpful, since my last posting i have had a call from the specialist dentists i have been refferred to. As an NHS patient normally i was quite shocked at the figure quoted just for this guy to see and examine me £195...At the end of the consultation would i be wrong to expect to take a copy of any x rays or notes the dentist takes away with me.

If i decide to have the work done elsewhere i pressume i would have to pay again for initial consultation etc, i suppose i am just trying to save a bit of money on what i know is going to be a very expensive process.

Hi

original x-rays and patient's notes are property of the dental practice. If you wish a copy of the x-ray, your dentist may charge you a fee to cover the costs of the copying.
