What would be the risks of removing a bridge?

I had a dental bridge put in to replace two pulled lower molar about 8 years ago. Now the last molar that holds the bridge is giving me a lot of pain. The x-ray I took seems to suggest that there is an infection around the root area of the tooth. To treat the tooth my NHS dentist suggests that I see a specialist. This is going to cot me at least £1,000 according to her as the cost is not covered by NHS. Being a student I simply can't afford the price.

Is there other way to solve this problem? I am wondering if I should consider having the dental bridge removed so that the affected tooth could be treated as a normal decayed tooth? I could have a new bridge put in after that.

Unfortunately it simply won't be possible to remove the bridge to treat it as a normal tooth. If you have an infection around the root it should really be treated with a root canal treatment. Also, if it is under a bridge I can understand why you dentist would want you to see a specialist. The only other alternative would be to remove the tooth and lose the bridge.

I understand this is not what you wanted to hear but these are really your only options
