Default New Crown

I need to have a new crown on one of my lower front teeth. Firstly I need root canal treatment and a metal peg inserted for the new crown to be affixed to.

Please could anybody let me know whether the tooth will be very much more prone to breaking beneath the gum line, after having this treatment .

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi

Your dentist will be able to make you awre of the possible complications with the procedure you are describing i.e root canal, post and crown.

There is a risk of fracture in the future because the dentist will be removing tooth substance, but this will be dictated by many other factors.

Many post crowns if done correctly can last for many years.

I hope this helps.

Usually, if a post is being used then this is the only option left if you want to save the tooth. Unfortunately the other option would be extraction and treatment with a dental implant, bridge, denture etc.. etc...
