My teeth are crooked and im embarased to smile help!

Hello, I hope somebody can help me here, when i was a child I had very crooked teeth and had some braces to help get them straight again. and although they did not become perfectly straight they looked OK. Ove the years as an adult (im now 36) my teeth are now wonky. I now cover my mouth every time i smile and I hate the way my teeth look. I have heard of these invisalign clear braces and wonder if they would work for me?

I hate the thought of having train tracks again and also they were quite painful at the time. If i do go ahead and have my treatment, will my teeth go wonky again after the treatment is finished and I stop wearing the braces?

How much do these braces cost ? and how long would this take I just want to be able to smile without feeling so self conscious all the time

There are a number of ways teeth can be straightened.

1. fixed braces
2. invisalign,etc

it is difficult to say if invisalign would work for you, but i would recomend you to see someone who is certified in invisalign or an orthodontist.

After having any form of orthodontics, your clinician would recomend a retainer of some sort to hold the teeth in place.

Invisalign costs range from £3000 - £7000.00 in the UK.

I certainly feel for you. The confidence that can come with a healthy smile can be quite emotional, especially if you are used to covering your mouth.

My friend Dr Kal Bohara is absolutely correct, until you have had a consultation it is difficult to know whether or not you are suitable for bracework.

Thank you Dr Pav and Dr Bohara, im quite shocked that my treatment could cost up to £7000.00 what is it that determines how much my treatment will cost? does this depend on how messed up my teeth are or is it just simply some dentists charge more than others? I want top make sure I get the right person for the job but at the same time do not want to pay extortionate amounts. I believe that in this world you get what you pay for and I guess i could afford up to £4000.00 fo my treatment...no xmas presents for me

Jane, I totally understand your concerns. Dr Bohara is correct, treatment can range from £1500-£7000.

The prices are not extortionate given how complicated tooth straightening can be. It does very much depend on your teeth. Many dentists, such as myself, offer interest free credit upto 2 years. This can help spread your monthly investment to make the treatment comfortable for you physically and financially.

Many treatments are made much easier by utilising the Inman aligner, I am currently undertaking a very severe case for a young lady which under other systems would have involved a much larger investment than she is currently undertaking.

You have absolutely every right to be concerned, but don't jump the gun before you have had a full consultation, you may be pleasantly surprised!

The Inman Aligner is an excellent system which works best on patients that had braces and whose teeth have moved back. We call these relapsed cases. The reason it works so well is that the space did once exist for the teeth to be in-line. It's now a question of recovering that space and aligning the teeth.

If space needs to be created to move the teeth into then a pre-treatment such as arch expander can be used which again is simple to use at home under guidance from the dentist. The smile will be at it's best.

We have been offering the Inman Aligner for a year as the first independent practice to integrate it into our other specialist services.
