Fixed braces for 18 or 6 month smiles

I visited an orthodontist in Cambridge last week. He said my teeth had an 8mm gap from top to bottom. They are also over crowded at the top. The solution would be to extract 2 premolars then have a fixed brace for 18 months. When i got home i looked up more inforamtion abot the braces etc, i came across 6 month smiles. The orthodontist i saw did'nt fit 6 month smiles. It doesn't mention it on his website. My question is would they be better for me, should i go and see a orthodontist that fits these to ask some questions. The cost would be £2800 for the above treatment.
