It certainly doesn't sound like the fault of your dentist. Trauma caused by accidents can very often lead to these problems, its just the course of nature and biology. Without a full consultation it is very difficult to say what needs to be done. Colour matching a single tooth at the front of the mouth is one of the most difficult things to do, and gets even more complicated with a dead tooth underneath.

It may be possible to get a good colour match but possibly only with porcelain fused to metal (which can look completely natural). Failing this, an implant may be a good option

I can certainly understand your concerns but again just wish to reiterate I think the problmes you are experiencing are the natural course of problems for the trauma you have experienced, and the problem arises that you don't always have problems!
