Would you recommend veneers or cosmetic braces to straighten my smile?

Q.
Dr. Solanki.
I am 19years old and my front left tooth is starting to get pushed forwards making my front row of teeth crooked due to there being no room. I have a sight over bite of about 1cm also. I have been to an orthodontic consultation and they advised me to have fitted metal braces for 18months but i take a lot of pride in my appearance and having braces would seriously damage my self image. Also my wisdom teeth have not come through yet. My teeth are not dis-coloured or mishaped in any way. What would your advise be about the Invisalign braces or veneers which i have also thought about?
A.
It would depend on your teeth and jaw positions as to what brace would be best for you. There are cosmetic fixed braces available besides the invislaign. I am to take a look to offer you a 2nd opinion

Hello there, My 15.5 year old daughter has front teeth which overlap. We are exploring all options for straightening… would veneers be suitable for this issue, and how old would she need to be to get this treatment? If possible, we would prefer to avoid braces. She has been scouted twice for modelling, and is keen to get the problem fixed asap. Best wishes

I have noticed that the gap between my front teeth looks like it has widened sightly. I have recently lost weight (due to diet), and have stopped smoking. I have also reduced my alcohol intake. Could any of this have anything to do with it? I had braces years ago when I was a teenager (I am now 31) which closed the gap. I am worried as to why my teeth have ‘moved’, and I am really concerned that they are going to fall out. Can you shed any light on this? I do not have bleeding gums so I don’t think it is gum disease.

It could be orthodontic relapse or just natural movement of the teeth. the best thing to do is to get an x-ray to see what the bone is like underneath in case there is some underlying gum problem.

You should go and see an experienced cosmetic dentist who can also advise you about orthodontics, to get an opinion and some estimates as soon as possible. it’s impossible to quote you or even advise if certain treatments will work for you without first examining you and your situation and your dental health

It sounds like your back teeth will need sorting out first, then veneers to make them look good. having the veneers without a proper bite can lead to breakages. As a guide veneers cost from £500.

Hello, I have recently got braces, and my teeth are wonky, and I know that will be solved, but, my main worry is my 2 front teeth. They are quite big and I really don’t like them. I was just wondering, would braces somehow make them look smaller and not so big/standing out? I think I look really.. horrible, and solving this issue would really help my appearance and help my bite better. I know the use of braces are only to mainly straighten teeth, but I really want my 2 front teeth to not be so big and standing out. Thank you very much for your time

Hi Unfortunately braces will not change the shape of your teeth, just the position. If you wished to change the shape then you may require veneers.

Dear Mark Hughes, I am 18 years old and I have a tooth disorder called Amelogenesis Impecfecta, Dentinogenesis Imperfecta, a lack of enamel on my teeth, They are all stained yellow and very unattractive, i was wondering if i could get veneers on the NHS as i am very unhappy and i am sick of been called names and been known as tarmac teeth which has been my “name” since school My dentist promised me veneers a few years ago when my jaw had fully grown but when i asked him a couple of weeks ago he said the NHS would not fund me, please help!!

I am not familiar with how the NHS operates as my practice is purely private – please contact your local NHS authority or Dental hospital for advice

I have had 6 front top tooth veneers fitted for the past 10 years with no issues until recently, when the large left tooth got chipped and started to stain. My new dentist replaced this veneer, but it is a very rough and dull finish compared with the existing veneers. When I questioned this I was told, “you will get used to it” and it would be okay. I returned to my dentist and again said I was not happy with the finish she attempted to polish up the new veneer but has only succeeded in making the teeth on either side rough. My original veneers have a smooth, polished and feel clean finish. I feel that a cheap type of veneer has been used. Could this be the case?

It might be the porcelain is different than the original veneers, see if they can rectify the situation of get a 2nd opinion
