Q. I am considering implants in my lower jaw as I have lost all the double back teeth. They were havily filled and all abcessed and I had to have them removed. I grind my teeth at night and in the day and wonder if this would have been a factor in my losing them to abcesses. I have had a mouthguard in the past but don’t use one now. Would the tooth grinding adversely affect the implants? Thank you
A. Yes tooth grinding might damage the implant crowns. They will need to be made to fit into your bite very precisely, you might need to wear a bite guard to protect them during the night.
