Would like to know if gold tips are added while root canal?

Q. I chipped my front teeth as a teen ager and got three caps. Over time root canals were done. One root canal was done nearly 30 years ago in Hungary with some mysteriouis metal. The caps were replaced over 15 years ago and it is important to redo the root canal treatment. My dentist suggests laser treatment and then filling the roots with some rubber substance or a rubber substance with gold tips. What are the advantages and disadvantages of adding the gold tips to the roots? I would think that the less metal in our mouths the better.

A. The rubber material is probably a material called gutta percha, I’m not sure what the gold tip will be to help you, perhaps you should ask your dentist for more detail?

The gold tips are “posts”. What are the advantages and disadvantages of posts? Is it just more costly?
