Would a lingual frenectomy stem any further gum recession and how will I know if it’s a success?

Q. I am 44 years old and have severe bone loss & recession of the anterior 4 teeth, bottom jaw. I consulted w/a periodontist, and he took measurements of recession. He recommended doing a lingual frenectomy to avoid further recession. How effective is this procedure for preventing further recession, and how long will it take to know whether it was a success or not, and if I will need a graft? Does it make a difference whether the procedure utilizes a blade vs. a laser (besides bleeding, need for stitches?) What is the typical cash cost for this procedure? Thanks very much for your assistance.,
A. It can be effective provided your oral hygiene is 100% as this is the most important factor. Laser or scalpel won’t make much difference although laser surgery can heal slightly quicker (in the right hands) You’ll need to ask your surgeon for a quote as all cases are different

The gum can be built up with a graft provided the underlying bone is stable. You will probably need to see a Periodontist though

Hi there, I am looking into a frenectomy. I am 23 years old and have gum in-between my two front teeth causing a gap. I have read up on the procedure but wanted to know when this has been done is it likely that the gap will shut itself or will I need braces/invisilign? (apart from the gap my teeth are perfectly straight with no gaps). Do you know roughly how long it will take to close either way and an approx cost? Thanks or your time

Geoffrey Says :

Cost will vary on system that is appropriate . The space is unlikely to close on its own .
