Will my maternity exemption certificate cover my cosmetic dentistry?

Q.
I try and look after my teeth, brushing very regular, strong mouthwash etc, but my dentist has told me that I have naturally weak teeth. I have fillings in almost every tooth and a recent pregnancy has made exsisting problems worse. Iv not got many back teeth left. Im only 26 and dont want dentures at such a young age. I cant afford implants or veneers, is there any help availiable to me? Will my maternity exemption certificate cover any cosmetic dentistry?
A.
Unfortunately, your maternity excemption will not cover you for cosmetic dentistry. You should be able to get crowns and bridges on the NHS if they are necessary.

I payed privatley 5 years ago for two veneers on my top two front teeth and the one one the right came out within the first year and I was told it would last for years but it did’nt.I was nervous to go back to the dentist as he anted more money I did’nt have..I now still have the veneer in but it is still always coming loose and the tooth that it is holding on to underneath is decade :(.I have a NHS tax credit exemption certificate now and was wondering what that covers as I am in agony with my wisdom tooth as well.Thank you so much for any help.

Dear Enquirer, Do try and register with an NHS provider and see if they are able to help you. Your wisdom tooth will definitely be covered by the exemption certificate. Regards

I have a tooth that was filled and repaired twice during my maternity exemption – kept falling out. The filling has now fallen out again – the dentist said she would do a root canal on the NHS but as my expemption will run out in the next 4 weeks I will have to pay for the crown. Have I misunderstood? I thought that work started during the exemption could be completed outside of the 12 months post delivery.

It might be that the type of crown required isn’t available on the NHS so you should confirm with your dentist which part of the treatment is NHS and which isn’t

I have had all my wisdom teeth extracted in a private dentistry. They offered me free of charge for another filling work becoz I have the NHS maternity exemption card, however they charged me £650 for the wisdom teeth extraction as they considered this is not covered.

I saw in one of the threads above saying wisdom teeth treatment is covered. Since I have paid, can I claim it back?

Thanks.

I had a broken tooth that wasn’t painful or any trouble until my dentist decided to give it temporary filling whilst doing a couple of other fillings that were necessary, following this I have been in agony as it got infected. I went back and they gave me antibiotics which I have almost finished the course but am still in the same amount of pain. they have said they will just need to take it out and the only option of filling the gap they have given is dentures which is traumatising for me to even think about as I’m only 23…they have said no to bridges because both the teeth either side to the broken one are healthy. I never asked them to do anything to that tooth and now im in so much pain and upset with the tooth. they haven’t been very nice as they caused this and now are trying to force dentures upon me and keep saying I have no other options. I am absolutely distraught over this and I desperately want some help…
