Will lingual braces change my facial structure?

Q.
I am planning to get lingual braces, but I am afraid of the changes my facial features will have as a end result of a two year treatment plan. My orothodontist is telling me that if the treatment is done correctly there will be no change in my facial structure, yet I see many accounts on forums on the internet of lingual brace users with facial changes. I am to have four extractions (two behind bilateral, upper canine teeth, and two behind lower, bilateral canine teeth). I like my youthful face with high cheek bones…will this treatment hallow out my features and make me look older?
A.
Dear Enquirer,
Please go back to your orthodontist as I feel in this instance it is better for you to follow his/her advice. You questions are very valid and you should be completely comfotable with any treatment plan and possible outcomes before you start treatment. Do ask them about the information you have read about in forums, remember that a specialist orthodontist is highly qualified and trained to deal with your dental concerns and forums do not necessarily relate to individual cases.
Don’t worry, just do a lot more fact finding from your orthodontist.

Sunita

I have reasonably straight teeth but the front two are rotated and this haspushed the adjacent ones out a bit too. I have spoken to a friend who currently has lingual braces that are targeting the front 6 teeth and believe that I would need a similar level of treatment. I always thought that havinga brace would be something I couldn’t afford but his have been very reasonable in cost and I would appreciate if you could give me a very rough costestimate based on the information I have given to see if it is in line withwhat he has paid. Many thanks

Hi, I am interested in the Lingual STb Braces. Please can you advise me ifthese braces are the same as the social 6 braces or can they treat more advanced crowding and rotation? As I have been told I am unsuitable for the social 6 braces. Please can you also advise the cost for upper and lower teeth? Many thanks,

Lost alot of confidence, due to facial lines and lips look thinner on rightside. Slight facial sag also on this side. Missing some dental bone in lower jaw, wondering if this is causing my face to look worse on one side. Need crowns and veneers replacing. Just not happy with my general appearance.

Hello, I wanted to enquire about Lingual braces. I have recently seen a maxillo surgeon and wanted to proceed with an oesteotomy, however, I will obviously need orthodontic treatment prior to surgery and wanted a treatment where the braces will as inconspicious as possible. Please can you let me whether your staff are used to working alongside maxillos at the pre-op stageand what the starting price/price range is for the lingual braces at your practice. Many thanks. Kind regards,

Hello, I am finishing school soon, and have currently found that i am to get braces. My orthadontist would not discuss ligual braces with me, which made me incomfortable. He said, with normal braces I am looking at 9 months, but with lingual, there is a longer wait. He would not tell me how much longer. Would You be able to tell me how much longer i would need them for my top teeth, if normal braces would be 9 months. Thankyou so much.

It is very difficult to determine how long and if you are a candidate for lingual braces. Generally, It could be approximately 3 times as long.
