Will I get more treatment time if I go private?

Q. Hi Rob, I have an appt for a root canal at your practice at Cadbury and am deciding whether to go for the nhs or private treatment. I am leaning towards the private treatment due to me wanting the highest possible chance of success. However, I have already been booked in for a 50 minute appt and wondered if with the private treatment you allow more time for the treatment? Also, am I likely to need a crown following this treatment as I need to factor in the cost of that too. Finally, what are the other differences between the treatments. I know they use different equipment. Do they both use rubber dams? The dentist has been brilliant so far so I have great confidence he will do the best he can with the equipment available. Thanks… Thanks…,
A. 50 minutes is fine , if NHS we will tidy up any other loose ends and have spare time. If private we will stick to the root treatment. The basic colour of a dental crown is matched to a shade guide of around 16 – 24 colours . Depending on the quality of the crown a larger range is achieved by blending colours and varying the colour within a single crown , effects can be also be added to blend with natural imperfections on adjacent teeth The NHS does not specify the appearance of a crown only that is suitable for functioning. they cost £198 for an all metal crown Private crowns range from £385 to £700 Gold or tooth coloured porcelain fused to metal sub frame are at the £385 end All ceramic, zironia based crowns around £550-700 Private root treatments use a full set of “Densply Protaper” files and also some auxillary files, Rubber dam, sodium hypochlorite , EDTA gel, the list goes on , the emphasis is on chemical sterilisation after mechanical cleaning and shaping. The NHS technique which does provide a satisfactory result, relies more on the mechanical cleaning and shaping. The result is a reduced success rate compared to a the first method. I stress here that no treatment is carried out that is designed to fail. Rob
