Why would you not need a crown on a tooth that has had root canal

Q. Why would you not need a crown on a tooth that has had a root canal done?

A. the reason for crowning a root treated tooth is to prevent the tooth from splitting.  In general all back teeth need to have crowns as they are exposed to heavy crushing forces that can easily split weakend teeth.  Front teeth do not always need a  crown because the forces are different on them adn they are far less likely to split.
