Why will veneers make my teeth look bulky?

Q.
Hello, I want to have veneers on my two top front teeth as I dislike the shape and colour of them (I currently have composite fillings which are unsightly looking).

Two dentists however have told me that veneers would look bulky on my teeth. I don’t understand – why would they look bulky if a veneer is the same thickness as the amount of tooth removed?

My teeth are in line, but I do have a 6mm overbite (which does not bother me). Would this be why they might look bulky?

Hi

Very good questions. The only way to give you a very accurate answer would of course to be able to see you in person, but in theory, if you are happy with the ‘horizontal profile’ or ‘front to back’ position of these teeth then we could make porcelain veneers that match this, so that they don’t look too bulky.

You could also consider some highly aesthetic composite bonding or composite veneers, which generally can require less tooth removal than porcelain veneers

I hope that helps. Why don’t you come and see us for a consultation or book something with a good cosmetic dentist near you?

Best wishes

Mark
