Why has my gum receded after dental implants?
Q.
I have recently had dental implants fitted problem is that immediately after having the crowns fitted my gum receded above one single implant. Now I have the abutment near the gum line clearly visible I am worried that this may cause additional problem in trying to keep the area free from bacteria is there anything I can do to remedy this? I have heard about gum grafting is this a possible way to go?

A.
I would advise that you come and see our implant experts for advice as soon as possible, or go back to see the dentist who placed them for you. Recession around the implant can occur for several reasons but may be a sign of failure. What is also important to assess is if your smile line shows this problem. If it is healthy and just receeded and it does not show then doing nothing may be the best option. I think assessing the problem is crucial at this stage though regardless
