Why Are My Teeth Growing Now?

Q.
Sir, I am 28 years old. One of the teeth at last corner right side of my upper jaw was missing. It had not grown from my childhood but the lower jaw teeth just below it are growing steadily. It doesn’t give me any pain but I feel surprised that there’s growth. Why won’t these teeth stop growing? What are the causes of tooth growth? Will this cause any problems in the future? If it is a problem, how can it be stopped, or are there any treatments for me?

Hi, thank you for your question. This sounds like ‘over-eruption’. This often happens if a back tooth does not have a tooth to bite against. It can lead to a lot of problems potentially. My advice is to go and ask a dentist for help as soon as you can and if it’s not too late maybe replace the missing tooth. Often an overerupted tooth can be pushed back a little bit if it has overgrown. This is called intrusion. Speak to a good dentist with lots of experience.

Regards, Mark.
