white fillings on the NHS
Q. Hello, could you please tell me if i am entitled to a white filling on the fourth tooth from the front, I went to the NHS dentist last week for a small filling as there was a small patch of decay on the front of the fourth tooth along, I came out with a great big metal filling shining out at me, I was horrified. The following day it fell out. I have to go back tomorrow for a replacement but I am hoping as this is a very visable area i can request a white one. Many thanks.
A.
The NHS does not specify the material used. Its own research body NICE (the national institute for Clinical Excellence ) supports the use of amalgam ( metal ) as a suitable filling. IT is the dentists own choice to use an appropriate material, which in this case, amalgam is. THerefore it is likely that you would need to upgrade to a white filling as a private contract item.
