where should the gum be cut for 6 implants

Q. Considering Implantsfor 6 front teeth.Have been given conflicting information regarding the placement if the incision in the gum. Is it better to have the scarring under the implants and bridges, or on the area above the teeth,(between teeth and nose)?Thought it may be uncomfortable to have bridges resting on scar tissue. Many thanks

A. The decision on where to place the incision depends on the access required as well as personal preference.

If bone grafting is needed you often uncover the whole of the ridge. If there is a good quality bulky ridge I usually just expose the top edge.

I dont find scarring a problem, if you have a history of excesive scar formation (eg keloids ) then it might influence the position.

I often place the incision just over the edge of ridge towards the roof of the mouth. In this case the bridge does not rest on the healed incision line.
