What treatment options are avaible for teeth that do not show when I smile?

Q.
when i smile/laugh with my mouth open my teeth are not visible. is it possible to have my teeth brought forward so when i smile they can be seen, if so what treatment would you advise?
A.
Dear Enquirer,
When you smile, it is generally accepted that an aesthetically pleasing smile involves showing a certain proportion of your teeth from the front and sides. If you are smiling and you are not showing teeth, it may be due to a number of factors. The teeth themselves may be short or worn and do not show below the upper lip, the lip position itself may be too low in comparison to your upper teeth or your teeth may be angled inwards. All of these scenarios require different treatment modalities, from braces to move the teeth forwards or restorative dentistry to give you longer teeth by crowning /veneering your teeth.
You need to be assessed by a dentist who can point you in the right direction.
I hope this helps,
Sunita
