What treatment can I have to replace old looking bridge?

Q. Hello Dr Glaister, I have had the same bridge on my bottom front teeth for about 15 years (It’s a Maryland bridge). When I had it done it was the best thing ever and improved my confidence but now it’s really looking dated and too obvious. What I was wondering is, do you have to change a bridge after a few years? Also I would like to have this bridge removed and placed with some thing more up to date because I know cosmetic dentistry has come a long way in the last 15 years! Would dental implants be best? What would you suggest? This has bothered me for many years but I have done nothing about it but this summer I have my sisters wedding coming up and would really like to do something finally.,
A. Bridges have improved alot in the last 15 years. If that is how long it’s been since you’ve had the bridge placed then it is very normal to need to replace them after 10 -15 years. Implants are a newer option and they do act more like a natural tooth, the only problem there is that in order to have implants placed you do require a good amount of bone in that area. You will need a consultation regarding this.Justin Glaister
