What Should I Expect To Pay For A Block Graft?

Q.
I have a number of implants but have 1 that has failed due to lack of bone…u/l 3 I now need a block graft ….. It seems a dark art to get any kind of quotation prior to referral …. Wat cost could I expect, I knowi expect to pay circa 2500 for. The implant and crown which is within my expectation as was with the other 7 implants….. I do understand that I am paying for surgical skill and as such do not wish to pay 200 a referral until I meet the surgeon I am happy with

Look forward to a reply

Thanks

A.
It is virtually impossible to give accurate estimates without examining a patient in person and their very individual situation. Medical or dental treatments cannot be looked at as commodities and so it’s hard to attached a fixed price or ‘one size fits all’ attitude to providing an estimate for an individual.

The cost of the treatment will vary depending on the size of the block graft, it’s complexity, the quality of the actual implants used (there are 100s out there but only a few with years of research and reliability behind them), the skill, experience and qualifications of the implant dentist (you’ll pay more for specialist care for obvious reasons), the location and quality of the practice and it’s facilities, the quality of the crowns placed on the implants and the skill, experience and qualifications of the dental technician who makes the restorations, the aesthetic demands of the case and the difficulty handling and managing the soft tissue (the gum architecture) result around the implants. One patient may be easy to treat and one may be extremely difficult (different size mouths, tongues, opening capabilities, the possible need for sedative or deeper anaesthetics in nervous patients, their medical situation may require very careful management) and this can affect a quotation.

The best thing to do is to carefully research the dentists. As you have had an implant fail it would be imperative for me personally to choose the best I could possibly afford for the second attempt.

In the UK right now a very high quality implant and crown would cost somewhere between £3000 and £5000 with a bone graft, so a quote of £2500 is on the low side.

Ask what implants are being used, asked for photos of cases similar to yours, ask for written or even better verbal testimonials from patients successfully treated.

In general I’d suggest being wary of ‘free’ consultations and the very best dentists and specialists will command a fee for their advice and examination time. Look for a Prosthodontic specialist who has a vast amount of experience in implants as the top choice. Go for at least two consultations and decide who fits you best.

I hope that helps you make your decision

Kind regards

Mark
