what is the disadvantage of teeth whitening

Q. what is the disadvantage of teeth whitening by using ultra violet lights.will it weakened by enamel or make my teeth brittle. please let me know bcos am thinking of booking an appointment for a dental teeth whitening

A.

‘laser whitening’ is not actually uv light.
It is actually just a blue light which heats up the bleach on the tooth so that it breaks down faster and whitens the tooth quickly. The percentage of bleach is 6% hydrogen peroxide.
The whitening process takes approximately one hour. The draw backs to this procedure are that the teeth can become sensitive after or during the procedure. Due to the fact that the whitening process is fast the tooth dehydrates which makes it appear whiter than it actually is. This means that after a few days the colour of your teeth will drop slightly.
It is good to follow up the procedure with a home kit. This way you will get the boost with the one hour whitening and the home kit will allow you increase the whiteness.
