What do you think about going abroad to receive dental treatment?

Q.
Hello,

I had a tooth extracted as I kept getting gum boils below it. The dentist advised best tratment is dental implant which would cost in the region of £2000. Second option to have bridge which will be anchored to tooth in front and tooth behind as the gap is so big. This will cost me £900. I am contemplating going abroad to have the treatment but not sure because my regular dentist may not want to provide after care should I require any further treatment. What is your advice on going abroad for treatment?

A.
My advice would be to be very cautious, particularly with dental implant treatment, as it involves surgery. There is also the question of aftercare as you have mentioned as your own dentist will likely not assume responsibility for treatment carried out by another. You have to ask yourself the question what happens if you have complications, as no medical procedure is without risk.

In my own experience I have had to re-treat lots of failed cosmetic dentistry that was done overseas originally. Dentistry of the highest quality comes at a price but what you should expect with your investment is treatment that will be done very well and with a long lifespan.

Maybe look into some financing or payment plan options rather than just having the work done overseas just because it seems cheap. I would strongly advise seeking several opinions and consultations before proceeding with any treatment no matter where you have it done.

I hope that helps you to make your decision.

Regards.
