What can I go about my gummy smile?

Q.
Hi I have suffered with a gummy smile all my life. When I was 13 years old I asked what could be done and the only option was to have my bone under my nose lifted which I didn’t want and I am now 30 years old and desperate to look normal. I’ve been doing lots of reseach ‘ve been to my dentist who referred me to a periodontist who said he can’t help me and to contact a cosmetic dentist. I’m finding this very daunting as I don’t know which is the right treatment or who to go to. I’m really confused as to what I should be looking for and asking . I remember being told I have a 5mm excess gum and I hope there is something that can be done.

Dear Enquirer,
You may be suitable for Lip Repositioning Surgery which is a procedure which helps the excessive upward movement of the upper lip, hence hides the gummy smile. The other option is to see a cosmetic dentist or preiodontist as you may be suitable for crown lengthening procedure which actually removes the excess gum. You would need to have the teeth restored with porcelain veneers after.
