what are the signs of a failed root canal treatment

Q. what are the signs of a failed root canal treatment - I have been advised that a 3rd canal in my tooth cannot be located (lower Molar 6) Part of the remaining tooth is totally black - can this be disguised with the permanent filling I`m to go back for in 6 weeks time - (why do I have to wait so long with a temporary filling - (no discomfort no pain ) Many Thanks for your time

A. There is no general requirement for a six week wait I suspect it may be down to appointment availability.
Most lower first molars have a very predictable root paatern based on 3 canals in rare cases canals can be fused. I believe it was suggested to be more common in south american & mongolian groups.
It should be possible to either remove the internal discolouration or to mask it.
