What are my best options to straighten my teeth, preferably as quickly and discretely as possible?

Q.
I am 38 years old and had braces when I was 19. I wore my retainer faithfully for about 2 years, and was very happy with the outcome. Every month or so I would try on my retainer, and if it felt tight to get on, I would wear it for a week or so. I have noticed lately that my teeth aren’t as straight as they once were, and my retainer won’t even fit around my teeth. What are my best options to restraighten them – I really want something fast, and as invisable as possible – cost is not a problem.
Thanks you.
A.
Thank you for your enquiry.

The best orthodontic treatment that is invisible, quick and effective is Incognito braces. However, you could also have Invisalign, clear aligners.

I would recommend that you have a full consultation with a specialist orthodontist who could give you all the treatment options.

Hi, I have crooked teeth and two big front teeth. Some of them, actually most of them are not aligned and I hate smiling because they aren’t straight. I would love straighter teeth. I was looking for an invisible brace or sonething similar, I have just discovered the invisilign which sounds good. Iknow it’s going to be expensive and hope their is a pay monthly process if it is within my budget. How much will it cost? can you send me some further info please

hi could you tell me the best way to clean my aligners? I am always paranoid after eating that i have left debris and its just going to rot all my teeth away! Should I put them in diluted mouthwash or is there anything specific to invisalign braces available? thank you for your time

August 31st, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Jett Says :

Hi there, It is very important to clean your Aligners extremely well during Invisalign. I usually recommend thorough brushing inside and out of aligners every time you eat or drink. You need to take your time with this to ensure no debris remains. I find an electric toothbrush can be better. Once a week the aligners can also be placed in the Invisalign solution for an extra clean which may be available through your dental practice. Alternatively retainer brite from the chemist can be used. Many thanks

what is your opinion on invisalign versus the inman aligner for the treatment of a gap between the front teeth. Time is of the essence, so I need the quickest treatment possible Thank you for your time

September 16th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Dylan Says :

They are both good if speed is most importance thing I owuld recommend a lingual brace (on the inside of the teeth) or a short term tooth coloured fixed brace approx treatment time 4-9 months.

Leah Says :

hi what is the general cost of invisalign for the treatment of a gappy smile. I’ve got about a 5mm gap between my front teeth that i would like closing. How long does it generally take for invisalign to close gaps such as this and is it the best treatment available for gaps thank you

September 20th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Shea Says :

Hi The cost can vary depending on number of teeth to be moved, where to and how far, whether the lower teeth need to be moved (to make sure your bite is balanced and in the best position) and the skill of the dentist. This can therefore range from £3000 up to £5000. If the teeth can be easily pulled back to close the gap this could be about 12 months, if not slightly longer. Invisalign will work to close gaps, fixed braces maybe slightly quicker. Good luck

hi, i am 15 years old and i was wondering how much invisalign will cost if my case is not very severe at all. i had braces when i was 13 and i have not worn by retainer for more than a year and i have noticed that 1 tooth is now slightly overlapping the other, it is not very noticable but i still want to have it fixed but apart from that, my teeth are perfectly straight . do you think in my case it will be cheaper? if so, how much do you think it would cost me? thank you

September 29th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Kasey Says :

Hi it really depends on the amount of relapse. Treatment for really mild cases start at about £1500.

can invisalign be used on the bottom teeth too? Both my top and bottom teeth are pretty jagged looking and i am really unhappy with their appearance. could you at all suggest an estimated treatment time and price for this as well? thanks

October 4th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Moshe Says :

Hi there! Invisalign can help with both upper and lower teeth! Unfortunately it is hard to estimate treatment time and cost for you without having seeing you. Also a consultation would be necessary to determine if the appearance of your ‘jagged teeth’ will be satisfactory after Invisalign treatment or a different treatment e.g. lumineers would manage your expectations better.

i’ve been wearing my invisalign teen for nearly two weeks and the dot has still not changed colour, the braces feel looser should I do on to the next aligner or should I wait until the dot has completely changed? thanks for any info you can give

October 21st, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Andrea Says :

Hi there, The most important factor in wearing your invisalign aligners in the number of hours they have been worn every day. If you have been wearing them for 21-22 hours a day you should be ok to move on. The blue dots can be a bit variable from one person to the next so may not turn totally clear. However if you have any concerns please consult your Invisalign doctor. Many thanks

Hazel Says :

I would contact your Invisalign dentist and get them to have a look at it just in case. Variation in Aligner fit can be found but if you have concerns i would suggest getting your dentist to put your mind at rest. Many thanks,

I would really need to see you so I can give you the best options I treat very crooked teeth with invisalign, with some people I use a short period of fixed braces then invisalign and in some I use lingual (tongue) braces which are totally invisable.

Karlie Says :

Hi, if your problem is a skeletal problem, you may have to consider Damon braces or a combination of orthodontic and surgery. It is difficult to say without a full comprehensive examination and would therefore recommend a consultation

does it take long for invisalign to straighten up gaps and also crooked teeth. I ‘luckily’ have both and am looking for treatment for them (AT LAST!) is invisalign my best option or should i be looking for a different type of treatment? thank you very much

October 26th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Emerson Says :

Hi, I cannot say how long a treatment would take without a full assessment. Mild cases can take 4-6 months, while more complex could taken 12-24 months. I would recommend a consultation with a dentist who provides all types of orthodontic treatment to explore all your options and to be aware of time frames with each option

can invisalign straighten teeth that have a crown on them? I have two crowns, near the front of my mouth, but i would really like to have my overbite shrunk, so to speak, as it makes me smile look stupid and goofy. If i can’t have invisalign treatment with this could you recommend another treatment? thank you

October 26th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Allie Says :

Hi Yes Invisalign can treat this as a regular tooth (assuming the roots of the teeth are all healthy – as shown on an x-ray). Fixed braces (such as the original ‘train-tracks’ and inside fixed braces, known as lingual braces) can now also be glued to the crown as if they were regular teeth, so these are options as well. Good luck

Jahiem Says :

I started treatment with Invisalign back in Jan 2009. My upper lateral incisor was twisted a bit hence the reason for the braces. I was told about 8 mths, well that turned into almost three years. I just had them taken off. Unfortunately my tooth hasn’t completely shifted and is still slightly turned. I don’t know if this new aligner will work any better. I was informed that this tooth in general is tough to shift.

Liberty Says :

Rotated teeth are difficult to correct perhaps you may need to consider a different type of brace, a fixed brace works well in this situation.

hello doctor I have invisalign braces and my dentist tells me my treatment should take about 9 months. However, my sister’s wedding is coming up and in 7 and im really want to have my teeth straighten in time. I’ve heard somethign about a device called Accledent and i wondered if you could tell me if it works and how much would it be? thank you

October 31st, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Ashleigh Says :

Hi Acceledent is bite appliance that you bite on for 20 minutes per day that enhances the orthodontic force applied by braces or aligners to accelerate the rate of tooth movement. This is due to the appliance giving off gentle microvibrations to stimulate tooth movement. It has been shown to reduce orthodontic treatment time by up to 50%. Costs are usually around £600-750.

Maeve Says :

what is your level of success rate with invisalign when treated overlapping teeth at the front of the mouth? I am looking into several treatments, but i would want something that would be glaringly obvious but still get the job done. thank you

November 1st, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Cheyanne Says :

Hi We have a 100% success rate if the level of overlapping is treatable with Invisalign (most are) and if the aligners are worn as advised (recommended 22 hours per day). Your other options would be a fixed lingual (inside) brace that is hidden.

Mattie Says :

Invisalign is ideal for patients with gaps as they are virtually invisible.

Eileen Says :

I am currently wearing both upper and lower braces (got them 3 weeks ago) due to overcrowded lower jaw and a cross-bite. I have had a tooth extraction on the right side of my lower jaw to make space for other teeth to align properly. But due to the fact that I had a tooth extraction only on one side, my concern is that my lower teeth will move towards the right thus creating a midline discrepancy. My doctor says its not to worry because my upper jaw midline is just fine and the lower one is usually unnoticeable. But if later during my braces treatment I notice that I am not happy with the discrepancy, they could extract another lower tooth on the left side to even things out. Would you suggest the additional tooth extraction or do you agree that the lower jaw midline is not as important?

hi, I think I need braces but my dentist tells me otherwise. I would like braces to correct the overlapping and spacing in my teeth. When I was last at the orthodontist he said that my teeth were perfect but that’s not what I think. My teeth have a gap at the front and at the back. They also have overlapping at the front. I also have an overbite so I don’t see why I shouldn’t have braces. Do I have to pay for braces to get the results I want? thanks. thanks.

December 12th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Ronaldo Says :

Why not get another opinion? If the problem is mild then yes you will have to pay, also children with a mild problem have to pay as well. The Index of Treatment Need (IOTN) was introduced to the NHS so only the more severe children get treatment- mild ones and all adults have to pay themselves

I am looking at the range of orthodontic treatment and before I visit my dentist, just thought it’d be a good idea to get another professional’s opinion. My teeth are pretty ‘buck’ at the front due to compulsion pacifier sucking when i was a child and this has given me a large overbite and a goofy smile. Not all of my teeth are affected, mainly just my front few teeth what would you recommend to be the best treatment but also at the cheapest cost? thank you very much for your time and I appreciate any information you can give me

December 16th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Jakayla Says :

hi, it depends on the degree of proclination. Milder “buck” teeth may be treated with Inman, clear braces or 6 month braces. If the problem is more severe you may want to consider fixed braces, such as Damon braces.

Hello, dear expert I need your help on braces. I have had a lot of work done to my teeth over the last few years and I now feel that they are getting to a good point. I have had a root canal operation on a big tooth to the right back of my my mouth as well as a veneer on my top right canine. I have had extensive cleaning at the dentist and have thought about having teeth whitened. Before I have that though I want them to be straighter. I have thought about a brace on a few occasions and think I am going to try and get the Damon brace. Is the Damon brace a good option both in general and considering the work that I have had done before hand? thank you for your time.
