The tooth that had the root canal treatment is now decaying, what treatment options are available to me?

Q. I have a front tooth which was replanted 30 years ago following an accident. It has had root canal treatment but is now decaying and my NHS dentist is about to either recommend a crown (NHS) or implant (private treatment). I am currently pregnant to must wait for the xray. What is the protocol on getting a second opinion and exploring the possibility of an implant specialist doing the work rather than my existing NHS dentist? If I consult a private clinic what would be the cost of a consultation and necessary xrays etc – and could I ask my own dentist for copies of x-rays?,
A. You will need to pay for a detailed consultation but could ask your dentist for a copy of the x-ray to show the specialist. However he may want to take additional x-rays (after the baby) for more information. At my clinic in Essex we include the x-rays in the cost of the consultation.
