The porcelain on my bridge has chipped off

Q. I had a traditional bridge put in just short of 3 years ago. The porcelain on the middle tooth has chipped off. My dentist says I am responsible for cost of replacing the whole bridge. Is this my only option. Should I be looking to the practice or lab for replacement. They say work is only guaranteed for 12 months is this normal?? many thanks.

A. At three years it would be unusual for the dentist to replace free of charge. However we would often givesome reduction in fees for replacement if the damage was not due to “careless use” (pardon the expression) This is just a personal policy, there is no industry wide standard warranty.
