The Gap Between My Two Front Teeth Has Slowly Begun To Widen These Last Few Years. What Should I Do?

Q.
Hi, I’m 32 and I have a fairly large gap between my two front teeth (4mm) and I’m not really up for braces. Is there a way to fix them with veneers and a rough costing for this procedure. Also is it possible to get payment plans for this type of thing. The gap has been slowly getting worse for years and is really starting to get to me. I also have a front molar and the visible part has broken away, this has had a route canal done on it before. Is there any way of fixing this apart from fishing out the bottom part? I’ve had no pain or infection from this tooth.

Many thanks.

I think with your description of the problem getting worse it would be wise to try to diagnose why the condition might be happening. A gap of 4mm may be hard to disguise with only 2 veneers if all the teeth are the correct sizes as it would make the front two look rather wide. It might be best to veneer multiple teeth to make them look more in proportion but we’d have to assess the space.

Regarding the tooth with the root canal it is widely recognised that teeth such as these should be covered and protected with what we call ‘cuspal coverage’ to help them avoid fracturing. One such method is a crown, another is an onlay.

My advice would be to go and see a very good dentist with lots of experience in cosmetic dentistry in person as your next step. Kind regards,  Mark.
