What can I do to make my daughters teeth white?

Monday, April 13th, 2009
Q. My daughter’s milkteeth was very white. But new teath are very yellowish. Why is that? What can I do to make her teeth white?

A. Hi

Dont worry as these are just her milk teeth. There is nothing really you can do to make them whiter. All I would recommend is regular examinations with the dentist.

Can a 70 year olds teeth be too white?

Friday, April 3rd, 2009
Q. Can an older (almost 70years) have teeth that are too white? My husband is needing a bridge on his lower front teeth and caps on 4 of his upper teeth (all but his canines.) He has whitened his teeth, but they are still quite yellow. Should we use a veneer on his canines and make them whiter? (I realize without seeing the color, you will only be giving me a general opinion.) My primary question is: Can you go too white on a 70 year old. Does it just look unnatural? Thank you for your time in answering this question.

A. Hi
the answer lies in what you would be happy with personally.
if you are changing the colour of teeth by crpwning or bridging them, you should choose a colour with your dentist that you would be happy with, however you are right to consider how the rest of the teeth will look when you smile as there will be an obvious colour discrepancy.
either you will keep whitening till you are happy with the colour of the natural teeth then have the rest of the work done to match to the new colour or veneer more teeth so that the teeth look a similar colour.
as to how white , i have patients who want teeth so white they glow in the dark and others who want something that looks natural. in the usa they prefer the former in europe the latter

My teeths are with dark yellow sports on them

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q. My teeth’s are with dark yellow sports and it is difficult to clean them?

A. You need to go to a dentist and have your teeth assessed sometimes professional cleaning can help.  If not tooth whitening may help but if really depends on the type of discolouration you have.

I have chipped yellow teeth with thin enamel can I get veneers on nhs?

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q. My teeth are jagged (from child hood grinding in my sleep)and also slightly yellowing. Futhermore, the front quarter of my tooth is now chipped. The enamel on my left front tooth is so thin on the bottom (see through) that it looks likley to do the same at some point. I have Cystic Fibrosis which means that I have had to eat a high calorie diet to sustain my weight from birth and I also take regular antibotics orally and via a nebuliser and inhalers which have not helped either. I also have severe vitimain D deficiancy which I am on medication for. My dentist is unsympathetic. Her latest attempt at covering my chip looks terrible and discoloured. In three years I have had the tooth filler/cover re-done four times already as it keeps coming off. It means that I not avoid certain foods such as apples for instance. Its starting to affect my confidence. Do you think I would be a suitable candiate for veeners and would I be able to get them on the nhs? I cant really afford them but at 26 I just want a solution that will protect my own teeth (especially the enamel) and that is strong and long lasting so that I can smile with confidence. Thank-you.

A.

Teaching dental hospitals ( try NHS direct ) may take a case of veneers on where there is the general medical consideration.  Veneers may be appropriate but you would need a clinical assesment.
Our veneer fees are in line with local private practices  £420 -700 per tooth. The StJohns Dental Practice offers a 15minute free consultation.

my teeth have turned yellow how much will veneers cost

Thursday, March 12th, 2009
Q. Hi Dr.Bohara Since my childhood, when I got my new teeth, they turned out yellow. All my life I have been embarrased about my smile, otherwise, I am beautiful. (I’m 45 now) If I get vaneer, now can last long and what would be the estimated cost of it. And how long will it take. Regards

A. Hi

High quality veneers start from £500 depending on the material and type. Veneers last for 10 to 15 yrs, but of course they have to be maintained by regular visits to the dentist and hygienist.

Each case is different, but majority of cases can take a couple of weeks to complete. I do not like same day treatments because this does not give any time to trial the temporay veneers before going to the final veneers.

i’ve never been to the dentist my teeth are all eroded and yellow

Thursday, January 15th, 2009
Q. Im 20 years of age and i’ve never been to the dentist.my teeth are all eroded and yellow.luckily for me,i may be seeing the dentist for the very first time this year, but before then i would like to know the solution to this problem and if i stand the chance of restoring my white teeth back.they look quite embarassing and i’ve had it for 10years now.please help me out.let me know all that must be done.thanks a lot.

A. You sound as though you have extreme wear of your teeth.  This is typically caused by acid in someone so young.  The cause of this damage needs to be diagnosed prior to having any dentistry carried out.

i have yellow teeth and want teeth whitening

Friday, September 26th, 2008
Q. I would love to have my teeth whitened but im fobbed off by my dentist that my teeth are fine and are naturally yellow which i absolutely loath and affect my self esteem (ive had yellow teeth since i was a child) by the fact i’ll never have white sparkle smile and everything cost so much money and im a single parent wiht 2 children and have been solely single for 8 years approaching 40yrs of age next month and although ive lost almost 3sts in weight i am still lacking confidence cos of my teeth….. is there any ways my teeth can be white without costing me an absolute fortune, ive tried home kit and not worked. my dentist in the past reckoned i will always have yellow teeth cos had it since a child and up to about 9 years ago i became more self conscious of it was cos a guy shattered my confidence by saying i would be far more attractive if my teeth were white – i dont think ive ever recovered from that! Needless to say im no longer speaking to him!

A.

Whtiening had different results from person to person depending on the structure of your teeth. No dentist will be able to tell you the result you will acheive. Did you get your home whitening kit from your dentist? If so then did you wear your whitening trays every day for 2 hours for 2 weeks? If this has not worked then i doubt any sort of teeth whitening will work for you. Did you take tetracycline as a child? If so then this stains your teeth while they are developing and would therefore be impossoble to get a perfect result with whitening.
If you have not tried the home whitening trays from a dentist then this method is the least costly way to whiten you teeth (£395 at my Clinic). If you have already tried this but did not wear your trays for 2 hours for 7-14 consecutive days then i suggest that you buy some more whiteing gel from your dentist and try this method again (you trays will still be good to use and the whitening gel cost around £50 for a weeks worth).
If you have tried both of these above and/or have taken tetracycline as a child then then the next option is Veneers. Veneers are considerably more expensive than whitening (from £795 per tooth at my Clinic) and are a lot more invasive than teeth whitnening and need to be replaced every 10-15 years.

I’m sorry if this is not what you wanted ot hear but hopefully this information has been some help to you.

Kind regards

my teeth are slightly yellow and this is really affecting my confidence

Monday, September 15th, 2008
Q. My teeth are slightly yellow and this is really affecting my confidence, brushing them isnt making any differnce, also on one side at the back of my teeth i have a yellow build up of plaque which looks horrible i think its tartar, my dentist does not have a hygenist at the momentand so cant offer me treatment for this as it is a privite treatment. and every dentist i call says they cant clean and whiten my teeth as i am not registered with them, is there anywhere i can go to get my teeth cleaned and whitened without moving dentist? also would loke to do this as soon as possible. apart from the yellow i have two metal fillings at the top back of my teeth and two white fillings at the bottom.

A. By law you have to see a dentist first who will then prescribe the necessary treatment to the hygienist who is only then allowed to clean your teeth

I have very little enamel on my teeth and they are yellow

Monday, September 15th, 2008
Q. I have very little enamel on my teeth and my teeth are extremely yellow (embarrassing). I have been advised that the yellow may be the colour of the dentine in my teeth showing through. Is there any way i can whiten my teeth without expensive veneers? Thanks for your help.

A. A cheaper option is to have your enamel replaced with composite filling material.   The end results can be very good but they tend not to last as long as porcelain veneers

I have failing tooth transplant and yellow teeth

Monday, June 30th, 2008
Q. Dear doctor my teeth are yellow through no fault of my own i dont drink or smoke.I have good oral hygiene put have a big gap due to a tooth transplant failing. Can you please tell me how much veneers are? and i have a false tooth where the transplant went wrong. I hate the look of my mouth the dentist said i have no more bone left to put a tooth in the gap. Maybe veneers will help the rest of the teeth look good thank you

A. I am sorry to hear your treatment did not work. I would strongly recommend a consultation with a good cosmetic dentist so your mouth can be examined and a number of different options explained to you. In my practice we see a lot of people who were told they could not have dental implants but there are great techniques where your bone can be regrown. It is a great option and may help you. Porcelain veneers are a lovely option to improve your smile but there are many other ones such as tooth whitening.

I Hope this helps you

I have crooked and yellow teeth what is the cost of repair

Saturday, June 28th, 2008
Q. In the passed couple of years i have badly neglected my teeth and they have become crooked, the front tooth pushes out past the other one. they are also yellowing which is very unsightly. could you tell me how much it would cost to have them straightened and whitened, how long it would take to do this and how i go about getting an appointment. thank you

A. It sounds like you need a brace of some sort to straighten your teeth and then to have bleaching to whiten your teeth. If this is the case the usual cost in my surgery is in the region of £4000. Of course there may be other issues such as existing restorations that need to be replaced or possibly veneers but I can only assess this when I see you. We offer a free cosmetic consultation appointment which is ideal for you to find out what your treatment options are. Please go onto my web site and follow the links to book an appointment or telephone 01727854429.

Are implants strong as natural teeth my teeth are falling apart

Saturday, June 28th, 2008
Q. Are implants as strong as an normal tooth? and i want to have a full mouth my implanted because my teeth are yellow and falling apart or falling out would do you think will be best for me as i am only 18 and im a singer?

A. It sounds as though you are in dire straits. my first recommendation is to arrange an appointment for a detailed assessment of your mouth. The cause of the damage to your teeth needs to be diagnosed prior to embarking on any advanced treatment.

Implants are extremely strong and usually have a very long life span if cared for correctly. The best tooth to be in your mouth is your natural tooth. Only if the remaining tooth structure is deemed unrestorable should you embark on implants. I urge you to visit a dentist as soon as possible before your problems worsen.

What can be done to whiten my yellow teeth

Saturday, May 31st, 2008
Q. I HAVE YELLOW TEETH. I WAS WONDERING WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THEM WHITEN AGAIN?

A. You can have your teeth whitened using bleach. This works very well on normal discoloration. The home whitening kits with custom made trays work the best. These are only available from dentists. The products that you buy over the counter or receive from beauty therapists are either not strong enough or can be harmful. There is no guarantee that your teeth will go to the shade that you want but they will definitely get whiter. The only exceptions to this are if your teeth have tetracycline staining and fluorosis. Whitening doesn’t work as well in these cases. If you have tried whitening before and don’t want to do it again then you could always investigate having veneers placed on your teeth so that they are the colour that you want

I hope this has helped
