Do I Have a Cavity?

Friday, April 24th, 2015
Q.

Dear doctor,
I am experiencing some discomfort at the moment, probably the upper left 4 or 5 teeth, but I think is the premolar and it is sensitive to sweet things. Could it be a cavity or maybe too much hard brushing on that side, considering that I just chew from that side of the mouth?
I’m getting worried because on the right side a very deep cavity was not found in the past and I had to have a root canal treatment.
I m scheduled with a dentist but I just wanted to have some extra advice to be on the safe side…my OPG taken in December doesn’t show any abnormalities or caries.
Many thanks in advance, I hope you can help me.

I Had Braces For An Overbite But My Arch Wasn’t Widened To My Liking. Can This Be Done?

Monday, October 20th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I had overbite and two teeth removed for braces. My arch wasn’t widened at all really and I have a narrow smile and huge dark spaces at either side. My bite is good now but I’m not happy with the aesthetics.
My orthodontist assured me he that did his best but I feel like I had two teeth removed for nothing as now I’m realising they would of helped achieve a wider smile.
My gums at the very side/back are more visible but my orthodontist told me that contouring isn’t for teeth like mine.
Is there a way of widening my arch?
Thanks.

My 14 Year Old Has Two Protruding Front Teeth. Could You Tell Me The Best Treatment For My Son?

Friday, October 3rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. My son, who is 14 years old, has his front 2 teeth protruding forward. These teeth sometimes rest and sit on his lower lip. He’s still got 3 milk teeth left to come out, 1 on the top set and 2 from bottom set. His bottom teeth are fine with no gaps in them. His front two teeth look so bad.  He had perfect milk teeth but ever since his permanent teeth have come through, they’ve just fallen out of alignment. Could you tell me the best treatment for my son and how long he has to wait for this? Thanks.

I Want To Know If I Can Have Braces Through Two Separate Orthodontists In Different Parts Of The World?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr. Riten, I am relocating to the UK from India in a couple of weeks. I am 25 years old and I need your advice on cosmetic dentistry.

My upper front teeth lie ahead of the lower front teeth. I wanted to get braces but heard the medical expenses in London are very steep.

So, I wanted your advice:
1. If I get the braces process started in India, will dentists in London take up the case and treat me?

2. What is the cost of getting braces in UK?

3. Anything else that you can suggest.

If needed, could I also send across my full mouth x-ray.

I look forward to your response.

Thanks.

I Would Like To Get Implants With Two Silver Teeth. How Much Would This Cost?

Friday, May 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I have a top and bottom plate. Can I get implants with two silver teeth and how much would it cost? I’m 28 and have had them for about five years, how long does it take for your bone to start to deteriorate? How long would the surgery take? How much would the payment plan be and how would it work? Can you please help me? I have a very insecurity about it because I’m so young. My dentures are uncomfortable and I really want to do it before my bone deteriorates, it has already been five years. Can you please help me some way somehow?

I Had Two Teeth Extracted And I Can Feel The Root Of My Canine Through My Gum. Is This Normal?

Monday, March 10th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I had two teeth extracted in November 2013 and the gap seems to be closing fairly quickly – I had my upper first premolars extracted. But last month I felt the root of my canine through my gum, by that I don’t mean it’s protruding the gum line, I can just feel the root and the top of the root. I’ve spoken to my orthodontist and was told ‘they are keeping an eye on this tooth, it will be fine’. Is this normal?

I’m currently two years into my treatment and should be ready for jaw surgery by June/July this year. Thank you.

I Have Been Offered Two Different Brace Treatment Types And I’m Not Sure Which To Choose?

Wednesday, March 5th, 2014
Q.

Hi. I’m getting invisible braces soon and the dentist has offered 2 types. One is the fast braces system and the other involves tooth removal & this is the one I’m not sure of & would like your opinion on please. I had a canine removed years ago (it was above the gum & next 2 teeth joined so dentist just removed it) the dentist doing my braces wants to remove the other canine as he’s saying I now have an extra tooth & it won’t look symmetrical. I’m not sure I want this though as it’s a perfectly healthy tooth & I don’t want to be left with big gaps. Do you think this sounds right? I hope you can help me by offering some advice. Thank you.

How Easy Is It For A Dentist To Spot An Abscess?

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. I hope you can help me. I underwent an initial root canal treatment for a lower molar, the dentist also discovered an abscess which he removed.

Two weeks prior to the root canal treatment he X-rayed my tooth and proceeded to fill it, he hadn’t noticed the abscess or the dead root. How easy are these to spot? He then had to remove the new filling and start the initial root canal procedure.

However two days later my jaw and glands are still extremely swollen and sore, is this normal, or at least is it to be expected?

I look forward to receiving your response.

Regards.

I Have Now Changed My Mind About Getting Braces. Will I Still Be Eligible?

Monday, December 16th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I have my first appointment with the orthodontists coming up in about 9 weeks. I went there last year and I was told I could get them but I said no, I didn’t want them. About 9 months later I changed my mind and asked my dentist to sign me up again (by the way I was 14 in April). He did just that and now we are at the present day where I am about to get my first appointment.

I wanted to ask you if you think I will get the chance to get them again. My two upper front teeth are overlapping by quite a bit and my two lower front teeth are too (not as much though – only about 1-2mm). I also don’t have a correct bite, when I bite down you can’t see my lower set of teeth because my upper set comes over them.

Thank you for reading this and please reply to me.

I Have An Impacted Tooth Which Hurts The Tooth Below It. Will Braces Fix This For Me?

Friday, December 13th, 2013
Q.

Hi there,
I have a tooth growing on top of another tooth (2nd premolar). I would like to know if I would need braces to fix this. I have been searching online and have seen that most people who share my problem with their teeth have needed and been given braces. They have said it was because of the growing tooth needing to grow down straight after the already present tooth was removed, so that none of the other teeth would move. I am not sure whether the growing tooth is growing in the right position, but it appears as though it is growing but sticking out of line from the rest of the teeth. I also cannot chew properly on that side (left) of my mouth, because of my tooth pushing against the one that is growing which hurts a lot. I also would like to know how the gaps in my teeth and my two bottom central twisted incisors could also be fixed (if possible), as other people always point them out to me which effects my confidence a lot.

Thanks a lot!
