Do you know of any cases where white fillings have caused OFG?

Monday, October 4th, 2010
Q.
After many years of neglecting my teeth I went back to a dentist and needed some filling work and extractions. After attending the dentist for a number of months I noticed that I was getting a swelling [non tender] around the mouth and lower face. This was eventually diagnosed as OFG [ora-facial granularmytosis]. I still suffer from this and, whilst not painful, iit is unsightly. Do you know of any cases/instances where having white fillings fitted kicked off a condition such as this? I don’t seem to be able to get to the bottom of the cause and wondered if it might be the white filling material in the mouth? Many thanks,,

Do you have any advice for someone who is extremely down about their teeth?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
Hi, I don’t really know where to start, but i’m extremely down about my teeth :( i’m 19 and just don’t know what to do, I feel the problems with them may be too big to sort. When I was younger I had to have root canal treatment on a front tooth, this left it very grey, I have since had a crown but they still don’t look right. Also, my bottom teeth became very rotten so i’ve had lots of work done on them, but they look awful as the white fillings I had are becoming discoloured. My teeth are far from straight, they all seem to be different colours. I just don’t understand it because i’ve always looked after them, but my dad had a lot of problems with his teeth & so has my mum. This is beginning to rule my life, I think about how hideous my teeth look 24/7. I saved up £400 to have this crown done which looks awful. I just don’t know where to turn, but at the age of 19 i’m not willing to live the rest of my life like this. So if you have an advice i’d be extremely grateful, i’m willing to save up any amount of money, no matter how long it takes. I also have pictures but not sure how to attach them on here. Thank you in advance.,

I had a large white filling placed and now I’m experiencing a lot of problems with that tooth, what should I do?

Friday, August 6th, 2010
Q.
Hi, im 26 and about a month ago i had a very lage white filling in one of my back lower molers as a small piece of the tooth cracked off due to decay. I have not been able to chew on it at all since but it has not been sensitive to hot and cold, or acheing. However, about a week ago it started to be painful and ache constantly. I have not been able to go without using pain killers during the day and have had a few sleepless nights. I went back to my dentist who adjusted the bite and also put a filling in my back tooth next to it as this had a small hole also. After the local wore off i was in pain again! The tooth can be very tender to touch and my whole jaw can ache at times. I had an emergency dental appointment at another dentist this morning and had an xray. There doesn’t seem to be an abcess or infection but the large fillling looks to have cracked or weakened a little near my gum line. My usual dentist said i will need root canal, however this dentist recommended a crown be fitted! Now i have to wait another week for an appointment with my usual dentist and i have no idea what to ask for! Can anyone recommend anything, im so lost with what to do from here and just what to not be in pain any longer! Thankyou!,

I would like to find out more about ‘white fillings’. My dentist does not recomend these and insists that amalgam metal colour fillings are much better.,

I’m happy with my white fillings, what do you suggest?

Thursday, May 6th, 2010
Q.
I am an NHS patient, I have white fillings in my two front teeth at the top, due to the enamil being ripped off when my fixed braces were removed as a kid, since then I have been brushing my teeth away, I am very unhappy with the feel ( they are lumpy)and colour (darker than my real teeth) of my teeth i have spoken to my dentist about it but he dismisses me and says I will have to pay private if I want it fixing – I wore braces for three years in my teens, Is this true that I will have to pay private or suffer his patch up?,
