Q. What is better veneers or crowns

veneers are better if there is alot of enamel left on the tooth and the teeth to be veneered are not already heavily filled.

crowns are more destuctive as more tooth tissue has to be prepared but are more protective when the teeth are more heavily filled or there is little enamel left on the tooth.

I m interested in permanent fangs which one is better option veneers or implants?

Q. I am interested in permanent fangs. I’ve heard of two options– one where you can have your teeth sanded down to a certain point, and have veneers placed over them, and they would be like that, permanent, for 15 or so years before they needed to be replaced. And then the more expensive sort– titanium rod implants where the actual bone is modified to give VERY permanent-no-changing-your-mind-later fangs. Is there any more infortmation on these? More specifically, I’d like to know about the former, because I am interested in having it done. Are these permanent to the point where they will not fall off even eating tough things such as steak? To sleep with them on, and have them until the 15 years or so is up? Can you give any more infortmation about these, and if you do them? For how much, if so, and every fifteen years, will I have to pay again? And in the event that I may want to switch over from these to the titanium rod fangs– could I? Thank you.

I ve big teeth could you suggest dental surgery to fix this problem?

Q. Hello I have quite big teeth, which I hate. I’d love to have dental surgery of some kind to fix this problem. I’m not quite sure exactly what I would need to have done though. What do you suggest?

A. Thanks for your question, you may wish to consider veneers. These are a thin layer of porcelain which is designed to fit over the front surface of your tooth, similar to a false finger nail, which can be used to improve the size, shape and colour of your teeth. The number of teeth which would need veneers to improve the overall aesthetic appearnace would depend on your smile. I hope this helps.

Can I hav just one veneer for my front tooth?

Q. Hello, i have a front tooth the goes back, the rest of my teeth are fairly straight, Could you tell me, would it be possible to just have one veneer on that tooth or would i have to have the whole lot done? best regards

A. Thanks for your question, it is possible to have a single veneer, to improve the aesthetic appearance of your smile. However, whethervthis would be successful for you would depend on hoe far back the tooth is. I would recommend that you attend your dental practice for a consultation to discuss your options.

How can front teeth overlap be corrected?

Q. I have a major problem with my smile, i’m 26 and my 2 front teeth overlap, when i turn to the sides and smile it looks like i have straight teeth till i stand face on, Also i have the same problem with my bottom front teeth as they too are crooked so its very rarely i have pictures taken. Is there anything i can have done but the thing is i’m on benefits so something that can be done on the Nhs if its possible, Thanks

A. Thanks for your questions. It is possible that either Orthodontics, braces etc., or veneers could possibly correct your problems. However these procedures are considered as cosmetic, and as a result of this, it is unlikely that they would be funded by the NHS. You may wish to considered visiting a cosmetic dentist who offers free initial consultations, as many are able to offer payment plans to spread the cost. I hope this helps.

Is dental implants the only alternate for braces?

Q. I have had numerous dental problems throughout my life. I did wear braces for about 6 years as a teenager..I am now 46 and my teeth have become buck again, which I hate. I have a hard time getting comfortable with a dentist and know I need other work as well. I do not think my teeth could hold up to braces again..do you think dental implants would be best solution for me? would they work if maybe I just got them on the 1st 4 fromt teeth?

Crowns fitted to my teeth are causing problem

Q. Hi, I have recently had 4 crowns fitted to my front teeth. They were fixed with temporary cement at first and all of them fell off within a couple of weeks. Since being fitted with permanent cement they have been in place for a couple of months but they feel like they are moving. I have previously had veneers and they sometimes used to give a clicking sensation which i was used to yet with the crowns it is much more often. I am worried that the crowns are not fitted properly (especially as they fell off) and my own tooth may become damaged. My dentist says there is nothing wrong and not to worry. Can you please provide some advice?

I have problem with veneered teeth how can I get it fixed?

Could you help as I am unsure of whether to have veneers or bridges?

Q. I have a partial denture for my upper left and right lateral incisors, but am interested in looking at implants, as this would be a more permanent solution.I admit I have not looked after my teeh very well in the past but I am determined to this time but dont fancy wearing dentures long term – my NHS dentist has mentioned veneers or bridges but not sure about that either. Could you recommend any treatment other than teeth straightening

Q. Hi i would like ask : the size of my front teeth are quite big and they stick out . i have had treatment in the past to straighten my teeth but im still not happy with the size on my front teeth. i would like to smile with confidence. is there any fink you can recommend? thank you so much

A. Hi, thanks for your question. Now that your teeth have been straightened, you may wish to consider having the front teeth veneered. When having veneers, the dentist would prepare the teeth (allowing them to make the veneers shorter than your natural teeth were) before fitting the thin layers of porcelain over the front surfaces of your teeth. Dental veneers can be used to improve the shape, colour, size and general appearance of teeth. I hope that this helps.

A. Hi many thanks, the only thing that would help with the staining which is conservative at the age she is, would be direct composite veneers. i dont think this would completely mask the staining but would help massively. hope this is helpful,

My front teeth have crowns can I have veneers?

Q. My two front teeth are capped as is a back one which keeps coming lose. I would like veneers and when I smile have ten teeth top and bottom showing I can’t have whitening done as my teeth are very sensative what procedure would be necessary for me I also have a number of silver fillings

A. Thanks for your questions, firstly I should tell you that as your teeth have already been crowned, it will not be possible to veneer them. However it is possible to acheive a new smile by a mix of crowns and veneers. If you are considering a full mouth makeover, then you would be able to choose the shade that your teeth will be made in at the start of the treatment, avoiding the need for whitening. If you are just having uppers or lowers done, then the restorations would usually be made to match the natural teeth shades. If you decide to give the whitening a try, this would usually be done prior to the preperation of your restorations, as you can then choose the shade to match your whitened teeth. My teeth are not straight could you suggest any method to cure this?

Q. I would like to get some details on which treatments would suit for me. my front teeth in the upper row are are little up and the teeth as a whole are not straight. can you suggest an efficient method to cure this? also i would like to know how long will it take for the entire treatment and its fee structure.

A. Hi many thanks for your email, the first thing would be to assess your teeth, there are usually two ways to straighten teeth, the first using braces which can range from £2000 – £4000. the second is veneers which are a much quicker solution to crooked teeth but the draw back is the teeth do need to be prepared. the braces treatment can take upto 2 years in some cases but there are treatments such as six month smiles which move the teeth at a much quicker rate.

the veneers option would take a maximum of 12 weeks and costs can vary from £2000 – £10000

Is its possible to replace veneers by having baby teeth removed?

Q. Hi. I went to the dentist a few weeks ago, I had a tooth that was lose. She told me it was a baby canine. After doing an x-ray, she said the tooth on the other side was also a baby, and that both adult tooth, were still up in the gums. She talked about braces and having the adult teeth exposed. I really do not want to have braces. I’m 26. Is it possible to just have the baby teeth removed and have veneers put in instead???

A. Hi many thanks for your email, if you have the baby teeth extracted, your fixed options are:

1: braces, expose the adult teeth and try to bring them down.
2: bridges on both sides to replace the missing teeth. so no need for braces.

Q. I have been successfully treated for gum disease & am now following a good oral hygiene routine of brushing at least twice daily, using interdental brushes,flossing & using mouth wash. However my gums have receeded to some extent. Is there any cosmetic dentistry available replace the gaps where the gums have receeded?

What would be the cost of crowns and veneers

Can I ve veneer bonded to the tooth rather than a crown?

Q. Hi, I am getting a root canal on one of my front teeth (upper right incisor). I had some work done on this same tooth last yr by a different dentist, it was already slightly discoloured so he did something to it and made it nice and healthy looking again (I think it may have been a composite filling or something?) I have been advised by the dentist I am having the root canal from that this tooth will discolour after the root canal. Will this still be the case despite the composite filling? If so, would it be possible to have a veneer bonded to the tooth rather than a crown? If I did have a crown would it be more noticeable than a veneer? Thank you

A. Hi many thanks for your email, once a tooth has been root canal treated one main risk is that the tooth can discolour, a veneer can help to improve the colour it just depends on how dark the tooth ends up. also with a veneer in the future if the tooth discolours more this can lead to the veneer looking darker!. A crown will help to block more of the discolured tooth and if done using a skilled dentist and technician the crown can look just as natural as a veneer.

Is its normal for a veneer to be slightly wide than other teeth?

Q. I had a veneer on one of my top front teeth as it was dead and discoloured. I wasn’t showed te colour or size of the veneer before it was fitted. as it turned out the colour isnt perfect but much better than it was, the problem i have is the size. i went back the day after it was fitted unhappy as the tooth was much wider than my other front tooth and was very noticable. My dentist shaved it down the one side saying that is as much as he could do without damaging the veneer. It was better but the tooth still stands out as sticking out and slightly too wide.Is this normal for a veneer? i was under the impression the tooth is shaved down so that veneer fits into place without sticking out? many thanks

Thanks for your question, a veneer is usually used to make a tooth look natural and healthy again, as a result of this you would expect it not to be noticable against your other teeth. I would recommend that you return to your dentist to explain your concerns in detail (maybe writing them down beforehand may help). If you do not feel that you get a suitable response, it may be worth gaining a second opinion, to see if the veneer can be improved, or if maybe it may need to be remade. My teeth are barely visible when I smile could you help?

Q. When i smile, my teeths are barely visible, i would like to know if braces can get them out or something, so more of my teeth show when i smile or any other cosmatic procedure??

A. Thanks for your questions, I would suggest, that it may be worth considering veneers. These are thin layers of porcelain which are created to fit over the front surface of the tooth after a little preperation. These can be used to increase the size of your teeth, but I would suggest that you get the dentist to create a wax up of the possible end result. This would enable you to make an informed choice based on a realistic image of the end results.
