Q. I have a lot of problems going on in my mouth. First off I have a gap becaue I am missing my two teeth on either side next to my canine. My canine’s have moved in the place where those two teeth should have been. Apperently I was not born with them. Near my canine tooth is my old baby canine tooth that never fell whch is loose on the left side. Then on my bottom right I had a tooth removed because it was cracked. What is your advice to fix my teeth?

Many thanks for your question. There are usually several options for correcting tooth position and alignment. Veneers are an option especially if you are also unhappy with the shape and colour of the teeth, however this treatment usually involves removing a small amount of healthy tooth. Other options include 6 month smiles, inman aligner, and invisalign. these would all reposition the teeth but not change the shape or colour.

Q. i asked my doctor to give me a nice smile or correct spaced teeth in the front of my mouth and he is giving me a crown and root canal on the damaged tooth first, but what about the other teeth in the front they are still spaced will i need a root canal on the other teeth in order to get them unspaced and looking nice?
A. It is difficult for me to say without seeing you, all I would say is that you don’t always need root canal before crown or veneer is fitted

Q. I have very narrow teeth at the bottom and am 63 years old the gaps have become more pronounced over time I have been adviced to put veneers on bottom teeth is not easy is this the case.I have had them widened slightly built up and laser light at the tips they look a bit better is there any other option please
A. I guess if veneers aren’t possible then you might have to try a brace to close the spaces.

A. Thanks for your question, if it is the appearance of these teeth that you dislike, you may wish to consider veneers. This would not involve removing the teeth, but using a veneer would allow you to change the shape and aesthetic apperance of the tooth, to create a more uniform smile. Alternatively, if there are clinical reasons to warant loosing the teeth, you could have implants placed to fill the gaps. I hope this helps.

Q. Hi Dr Solanki, I have a narrow tooth to the left of my front teeth and to the left of that tooth I have a fang tooth which I really hate the appearance and feeling of, it is positioned a bit higher than my other teeth and when my mouth is closed if you press along my mouth you can clearly feel a difference there, also when smiling it does not look good. I love to smile but past few years I smile alot less with my mouth open, it does affect me and in general most of my teeth need fixing eg; straightened, some reshaped to look even and whitened. I was wondering what could be done to help with my upper left fang tooth so it looks normal and also for all my teeth to be straight, even and white? I would prefer not to have braces. A. Thanks for your questions, although you would prefer not to have braces, I would encourage you to look into the various types of braces which are available today. There are systems which can work in as little as six weeks, as well as systems which are virtually invisble. If however this is really not for you, you may wish to consider having the teeth veneered. The veneers could be used to alter the size, shape, colour and overall aesthetic appearance of your teeth, to create the smile you desire. I hope this helps.

Q. hi there i just have had 2 veneers fitted to my 2 front teeth, and i love the size and shape.. just not mad for the colour as i feel i have darkened and lost my original whiteness, even tho i never really had the whitest teeth to begin with. hope this makes sense, what can i do now?
A. Thanks for your questions, if the colour of the veneers does not match your natural teeth, I would recommend that you return to your clinician to discuss possible replacement of the veneers. However if they do match, the only answer would be to have teeth whitening (which would not change the colour of the veneers) and then have the veneers remade to match the whitened shade. I would however expect that if the latter is true you would be charged for this service. I hope this helps.

A. Thanks for your questions, Dental bonding could be an option, depending on the size of the gap you are trying to close. I would expect you to pay no more than £300 for the two teeth. Your other options would be veneers, which I would expect to cost between £400 – £600 per tooth, or teeth straightening for which I currwently have treatments available from £999. There are many practices now, who are able to offer monthly payments schemes such as interest free credit to help you spread the costs of treatment. I hope this helps.

Q. I very recently attempted at a local dentists office to have my canine tooth (which had bonding on it) re-bonded. I wanted it to be a solid color and shaped appropriately without harming my gum. The dentist was highly unsuccessful. The bonding looks varigated (two colors) and was either too large (looked like a dog tooth) and now too small/short. Question: should it not be simple to mix a color to match the tooth and not be varigated? Also, I had one hour whitening done and it didn’t really whiten my teeth very well. It has been less than two weeks and what whitening occurred is going away quickly. I asked if I had enough enamel for the treatment (I am 51) and did not get a reply. Any suggestions on how to get my teeth very white and a my canine to match? I do take good care of my teeth, brush, floss, etc daily FYI. Thank you!

Start with sudy casts of your teeth then modify the cast to the shape that you want balanced with potential conflicts in the Occlusion / bite. Then veneer the teeth with an opaque ( normally Porcelain) Veneer. AN assesment is needed to find out if a single veneer or the visible smile (?? 8 teeth) is needed.

Q. Hi Dr Moore My dentist recently fitted a new (procera inceram) crown for me to replace an old crown. It is my big front incisor on the top. He has done a good job with the shape and colour but I can still see a blue line at the margn. My natural smile shows my gum line and the main reason I asked for a new crown was that several friends got crowns that seem to be like real teeth and have subgingival margins. When I asked my dentist for a new crown I made it clear money was not a consideration and that cosmetic appearance was my priority regardless of cost. But on fitting my new crown it is most definitely at least half a mil short of my gums and not much of an improvement over my last crown. Should I sack the dentist I have had since a child on the grounds he is a dinosaur. or should I quietly go behind his back?
A. Go back to him to voice your concerns, it maybe that the crown could be remade with a more sub-gingival margin.

Q. Dear Dr Moore I am Writing concerning a special case of cosmetic dentistry i am interested in. I am looking for a way of reshaping 8 of my teeth (the top and bottom canines and top and bottom lateral incisors). I wanted to consult you as to the feasibility of this, and secondly if it is a service you can provide as it is reshaping the teeth rather than trying to return them to a normal shape. The effect i am after is for the canines themselves to be slightly expended (approximately 1 or 2mm) and both them and the lateral incisors to be more pointed. The intent is to be a subtle effect and must be acceptable for still eating/chewing etc. I realize in itself this request is rather unusual, but i was hoping even if you yourself cannot provide this service you might be able to point me in the direction of those who could. On that note, if you can provide this service, how much would it cost? for all 8 teeth and which would be the best way of approaching this? I would greatly appreciate any help your expertise could lend to this matter.
A. The reshaping of teeth can be carried out in a number of ways including simple bonding of white filling to the teeth (cost £50) or veneers/crowns (starting from £450). The choice depends on the durability of the material needed, the extent of the correction required and the position of the opposing teeth.

Q. I have recently completed a course of cosmetic dental treatment which included a porcelain veneer on one of my front teeth. I don’t feel at all happy with it as it is rough to the touch and not the same colour as the other tooth. It appears almost stained!I am concerned to speak to my dentist as a complaint seems an insult to his work, however, the treatment was expensive and I am not happy with the result. Thanks for getting touch, I would recommend that you do return to your dentist and explain your concerns. I would much prefer my patients to be happy with their treatment and be able to recommend my work. It may be that there is a little excess cement left from when the veneer was fitted. However in respect of the colour, the veneer should be enhancing your smile without standing out, and so the dentist may have to consider remaking the veneer in a shade which better matches your natural teeth shade.
