Im applying for dentistry can u suggest me some tips?

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Q. hi DR.MOORE, i am applying to dentistry this year, could you please give me some top tips, about doing my best in terms of interviews, personal statement, and etc? thankyou

A. The best thing to have in your CV is probably time visiting dentists to gain experience of working in a dentl practice. The first place to ask is your own dentist to see if they would allow you to sit in for a week or 2 with maybe a letter saying how much you enjoyed it etc… obviously the most important factor will be your grades at the end of the day but it will all help. Good luck  Andrew

my teeth got crooked what can i do about it? do they have any offer plans to pay back?

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Q. hi, i found this website by surfing teeth and google, and i have a problem on my teeth and i need help real bad. i have bad teeth, when i bite it does not feel good. It is difficult to sleep at night most of the time. over the year when i was 16 they told me i needed braces but i was not able to afford them, now i am 19 and it has gotten worst, my teeth got more crooked and i havent been to the dentist in a long time probaly since year 2005 as i can remember. i have no dental insurance, my work does not offer insurance for dental, and i don’t know what i am going to do. when i smile it makes me feel sad, i don’t like to smile. and when i talk i have problems. i live in arkansas, russellville. small town. i can’t afford to go to the dentist with no insurance, it will cost me a lot. what can i do? do they offer plans to pay back? and i wonder how much will it cost me to fix teeth?

A. Ideally, you need to see a cosmetic dentist for a consultation to see what options are available to you.
As you are only 19, having your teeth improved now will make a big impact on your life- and you may look at it as an investment. The longer you leave your teet untreated, the more it could cost you to fix in the future. I am unaware of the charges that they have in USA, but perhaps you can research some places that offer free consultations. Sorry I can’t help more than that- and good luck

Having had 4 metal based porcelain caps fitted to my four bottom teeth

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Q. Having had 4 metal based porcelain caps fitted to my four front bottom teeth can the 15year old bonding on my 2 upper big front teeth above the caps be replaced with new bonding. My dentist refuses to do this and states that they must be restored with all porcelain caps ie Lava. I hate to have good teeth filed down for caps. Help please. The original bonding was put on in the States. Thank you do much for your time. Sincerely

A. Hi , you can have the bonding replaced but don’t have it done with your dentist. He may not be able to do it very well and the fact that he suggested Lava crowns for your anterior teeth means he doesn’t have a grasp of the different types of restorations that are suitable for anterior teeth. Lava crowns require 2.5mm reduction around the whole tooth which is a lot considering veneers can be done in 0.2 mm thickness. Lava is a zirconia restoration which is very opaque and many cosmetic dentists do not use this material in the anterior region due to this fact. Have an opinion from a restorative/cosmetic dentist to find out your options for the two upper front teeth.

I was recently obliged to have a bottom far rear molar tooth canal treated

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Q. ello, I was recently obliged to have a bottom far rear molar tooth root canal treated, but when I went to an NHS dentist afterwards for a crown he told me that wouldn’t be necessary for six months. Now I read that uncrowned root canal teeth are at risk of fracturing especially with a heavy bite like mine. What is your opinion given that I would be hard pushed to finance private crown treatment having already laid out, what for me is a very large sum of money (£560) for the canal work. Also, after four weeks the treated tooth is still sensitive to the touch (though no actual toothache as such). Is this a cause for concern? Thanks for your advice

A. The consensus recommendation from Europe & USA is to procceed to a crown sooner rather than later. This view was adopted over 10 years ago, prior to that a delay of 12 months was suggested to confirm evidence on radiographs of healing. I would be concerned if the tenderness was getting worse or not resolving

USA dental directory added to cosmetic dentistry Guide

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

Traffic to www.cosmeticdentistryguide.co.uk has been growing rapidly over the last few months with over 39,000 unique visitors in the last 30 days. A large proportion of the traffic has been coming from the USA and so we have developed a US dental directory with lists of cosmetic dentists in all the states to help our firends over the pond to find a cosmetic dentist near them.
