Will NHS pay for second braces treatment?

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010
Q. hi i just wanted to know that basically before i had my braces done when i was about 13 or 14, they gave me the retainer after but then because i was not able to speak properly (my speech was not clear) i no longer wore them, i have recently turned 15 and my teeth have become the same as it was before the braces was put on, my question is that can i put braces on again without paying?,
A. You’ll have to speak to your orthodontist but I doubt the NHS will pay for more braces I’m afraid

What are the braces options for out of line and sticking out front teeth?

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009
Q. My two upper front teeth are out of line and a bit sticking out and i was wondering if there is a solution for me to have them fixed with braces or any other options available? i would really like to know what are my options in this case and how much it would cost me? thank you so much!!

A. Braces could fix this. There are many different types of braces including Invisalign, lingual braces (braces in the back of your teeth) and traditional train tracks.

I recommend you book in for a consultation with an orthodontist. I can recommend my colleague Dr Darsh Patel- 020 7612 9810/www.umbrellasmiles.com.

Kind regards

I have 4 tooth removed nd braces fixed but my jaw looks misaligned?

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
Q. Hello there,i was wondering if you could help me.When i was about 12 i had 4 larger teeth removed towards the back of my mouth.2 on the top and 2 on the bottom.I had these removed due to overcrowding.I then had fixed train track braces fitted on the top and bottom of my teeth.I had these fixed for about a year but i had them removed as i was getting constant headaches and we thought this might be causing the problem.Since having the teeth removed and the braces fitted my appearence has totally changed. My jaw is completely crooked which is totally noticeable, especially in photographs where i cannot stand to look at myself. My face itself has become alot longer and thinner and the the pallet in my mouth has caved in.Instead of being a nice u shape it is much more like a v shape and it feels as though i am biting on the side of my teeth. When i have seen my dentists they say that there is nothing wrong but this has being really bothering me for years and it is my crooked jaw that really upsets me and i am desperate to try and sort this out and have a straight face again. Please can you help me.Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

A. If your problem is purely a tooth position issue a brace will sort out your issues.  However it sounds as though your jaw growth has been uneven over the years.  This is unlikely because of your tooth extractions.  If this is the case you may need surgery to reposition your upper and lower jaws possibly in combination with a fixed brace

Is this normal to have a grey line on the front two top teeth?

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Q. My 3 year old daughter has suddenly developed a grey line going down her front two top teeth. It looks like someone has drawn on them with a pencil. Is this anything to worry about. Her teeth feel smooth so there are no ridges. Any advice and help much appreciated.

A. Very unusual – it may be stain but a proper assessment is required

Teeth straightening questions

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q. Hi there, I have a question about teeth straightening. I had braces as a teenager but over the years my teeth have started to move causing my front two teeth to overlap. I’m now 23 and would like to get my teeth straightened using train track type braces. I am also interested in having clear braces (not like invisalign). Any information about how long treatment may take and cost would be really helpful. Thankyou.

A. Treatment time varies on what needs to be done could be 6 months to 3 years.  Costs depend on who you see and what type of treatment you have.

My lower teeth are very gappy can I have train tracks braces

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008
Q. I have perfectly healthy teeth, but only 24 of them so are consequently very gappy teeth – in parts my lower teeth are in front of my upper. I really dont want veneers- as I dont want to destroy my teeth, and even so have been told the gaps are too wide. i have been told train tracks are the only option. At 38, I really want to avoid this. would invisalign be strong enough to move my teeth- is there an alternative . Do I need to live near the dentist? I am really stuck!

A. By the sounds of things fixed braces would be the best treatment for your teeth. I’m not sure ifinvisalign.html” target=”_self”> invisalign would work. If you have fixed braces you will have to have a number of appointments so you will need to live within commutable distance.
I’m sorry I could not give you any better news
Kind Regards

My front teeth are overcrowded and I look like a vampire

Thursday, May 29th, 2008
Q. Hello, I’m considering cosmetic surgery on my teeth because they are overcrowding my front teeth- on either side- i look like a vampire! Do you think you can straighten them out?

A. Hello, gone are the days that you have to live with crooked teeth. there are many ways to straighten your teeth out and sometimes this can even be with out extractions of teeth and also without the need for the typical train track view. there are products such as invisalign. i think he best thing would be to consult a cosmetic dentist to try to help clear your mind with what is needed to improve your smile.
