Should I Have My Whitened Teeth Before I Have A Bridge Fitted?

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013
Q.

Hello Doctor Hughes, I really want to have my teeth whitened but I also need to a bridge fitted for a gap that I have in my upper set of teeth, I would like to know if I should get the teeth whitening done first and then the bridge to match them or have the bridge fitted first then have the whitening done? I’m currently saving up to have this done so would really appreciate some advice please, thank you in advance for your help

My Dentist Says I Shouldn’t Whiten My Teeth, Should I Ignore Him?

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013
Q.

I’m desperate to get my teeth whittened, they’re not terrible but would love a brighter, whiter smile. I’ve had past trials and tribulations. During my mid-teens I suffered with bulimia which I think has contributed to why my teeth are sensitive already.I’m now 26 yrs old fit, healthy and recovered. But I’m forever using whitening toothpastes to attempt to achieve that white smile but still not satisfied! After to speaking to my dentist briefly he has advised me 1. To stop using whitenning tooth pastes and 2. That teeth whittening would be a bad option for me as I have sensitive teeth already, would. It be a terrible idea to ignore him?

Can I get teeth whitening and bonding after my Invisalign treatment ends?

Monday, May 14th, 2012
Q.

hi, I am almost finished with my invisalign treatment and am very happy with the straightening results. However it has created more problems for me. As the teeth have moved, stains on the edges of teeth that were tucked behind others have appeared. I am 38 so they have been there a long time. I have been trying whitening toothpastes etc but not noticing any difference. Also on the front tooth, the edge has been revealed to be slightly ‘chipped’, it’s very rough, can this too be fixed? I don’t want to still be embarrassed with my new smile. My dentist says he will replace fillings that I had on my front tooth when I broke it as it is not the right shape for my new teeth. Will he be able to do that before I start wearing retainers, I don’t want to wait possibly 2 or 3 years before I have the fillings replaced but obviously this will change the shape of the retainer. please help! thank you

What treatment can you recommend for my discoloured teeth?

Monday, January 9th, 2012
Q.

Hello,

When I was younger I had pretty bad mottling on my teeth, which I think was from flurosis.

When I reached the age of 13 I had some treatment on my teeth, which really polished them up and gave back my confidence. I think they bleached them, although I can’t remember for sure.

Now at the age of 22, I’ve found 5 of my top teeth have become discoloured and yellow tinged. In addition in between my front tooth and canine, there appears to be a thin dark mark lining the edge of my tooth. My teeth became like this a few years ago. Naturally, its knocked my confidence, and I would like to get it sorted.

I was wondering if there was any treatment avaliable, to whiten my teeth up a bit, and if you could give any roundabout figure of the cost.

Kind regards,

What are the differences between NHS and private practice crowns?

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011
Q.

Subject : NHS or Private Crowns ?

My dentist has described some differences :
NHS = ‘flat’, unnaturaly opaque white with metal eventually showing at gum edge as I age.
Private = Translucent white, MUCH more like MY real teeth.

But I was surprised he couldn’t show me examples of Private ones to compare with my existing ageing NHS ones (saying I could only really tell once they are in MY mouth – a bit late I thought !)

Its very hard to justify the extraordinary extra cost (as I need 4 Crowns) when I’ve never been ‘teeth-conscious’ before.

Matching my existing yellowy teeth OR suffering (or risking) whitening them is another new issue I’m sure I must decide before choosing crowns.

Can you help me make these important and expensive decisions ?

What’s the best option for tooth whitening, who do I go to and how do I know I should?

Thursday, September 15th, 2011
Q.

Dear Mark,

I am looking into getting my teeth whitened and wondered what you would recommend as the best option in your opinion – best results and least painful?

I am 30 years old and my teeth are a bit stained, so would like them nice and white again.

Also when I am looking into a dentist, should they be a cosmetic dentist to do this type of treatment? And how do I check if they are a cosmetic dentist as opposed to a normal dentist?

Thank you very much,

Teeth whitening treatments don’t seem to be working, would lumineers be a good option?

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011
Q.

My teeth and gums are healthy I do have one implant at the front which Im very pleased with and one crown which is doing fine. I have some filling but my main complaint now is I really want white teeth as ive tryed whitening treatment but not enough of a change for me I want something to work quickly and be how I want to look from the start. My teeth are very straight and I was thinking that Lumineers may be the way forward as I dont want my teeth worked on or to much preparation if possible. Plus would I have to do something with the Implant and Crown or can this go over the top.

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Hello, I had eight porcelain veneers fiited five years ago, although I am very happy with the result of a lovely smile, I now wish that I had had the veneers made whiter than they are at present. Please could you tell me if it possible to have my present veneers cosmetically whitened without having to have new veneers? Also how long should I expect the veneers to last before the set will have to be replaced. My worry is also the longer that they are fitted, what is the possibility that my gums will change and that the veneers will , worst case sceniario fall off, arrgh!? Please could you help. Kind Reagrds,
