Would you recommend a metal plate for longer term use?

Friday, December 3rd, 2010
Q.

I have been advised by my dentist that I need to have 3 teeth extracted because of root problems. It may be that a 4th tooth could also be extracted. I already have ab acrylic plate for 1 tooth which needs daily fixing. I am told that I can have a metal based plate or stick to acrylic plate. I understand the metal plate is stronger but more difficult to add teeth and hence the rationale for taking out the extra tooth. Is the metal plate more likely to stay in place. I understand there is a significant price difference. What would you recommend

Is tooth extraction my only option if my tooth is infected after a filling has come out?

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010
Q.

Hi, I am hoping you can help me. Approximately 7 years ago I had root canal treatment on one of my bottom molars and this was then filled up, a crown was never advised. At the weekend, the filling has come up and I have been in pain. I have had an xray today and it shows that I have an infection which I have antibiotics for and the dentist is suggesting I have the tooth pulled out rather than a crown. Is there no way the tooth can be saved?

Are white fillings suitable or recommended for large fillings?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010
Q.

Hi,
I would like to have my amalgam fillings removed for the newer type ones. I have 3, 1 of them is small one is large in the center of the tooth and one is very large taking up most of the tooth. The two large ones are also maun chewing teeth. Are the newer white fillings strong enough for such a big hole or would I need to have teeth removed?
Also how can I be sure that the dentist I choose removes them in a safe manner?

What can I do to replace a tooth that may need to be extracted?

Friday, November 19th, 2010
Q.
Half of my back molar fell out so I’ve had two fillings which have fell out. Last time I visited my dentist gave me a replacement filling and some antibiotics for an abscess on the same tooth. The abscess still hasn’t gone so I think I’l have to get it taken out now which I’m very worried about, I don’t want to forever have a gap in my mouth and I also read that having a gap from a missing tooth will cause your other teeth to move and may fall out aswell. I’m 16 and really worried about it. Is there anything I can have done to replace the tooth?,

Do I need to get an implant fitted straight after having a tooth extracted?

Thursday, November 18th, 2010
Q.
My back molar was extracted and then the 2nd molar broke (there is 1/4 left). I have had a root canal, but now there is a vertical fracture and I need to get the tooth extracted and replaced with an implant. I was trying to wait for about 6 months but now the remaining tooth is breaking which will leave only the root. Can I leave the root in until I am ready to have my implant which will be in about 6 months. There was an infection forming so the dentist gave me some antibiotics. What can be done? My dental surgeon likes to do implants within 10 days of extractions but I cannot afford it.,

I have a gag reflex and am consequently scared of dentures. Is there any other option?

Friday, October 29th, 2010
Q.
My dentist has recommended that I have my five front teeth removed at the top and 3 at the bottom and have partial dentures. I would like to have a bridge but as I have protruding teeth he said that the bridge would also protrude. I have a bad gag reflex and am terrified of having dentures and not being able to cope. Please help.,
