Q. Hello!:)… I am 28 years old and my wisdom teeth are growing in especially on the bottom right and it is very painfull, what can I do for the pain?
A. Book in to see your dentist to make sure they are not infected and are growning through alright. In the meantime make sure you are keeping the area very clean.

Q. Hello. I have a crown fitted in the front of my mouth. the gum line has receeded and the crown is now cracked (having been filled down to slim it by a dentist after It took too long to refit it when it dropped out and the other teeth had moved). it looks unsightly and the crown is partially shaven on one of the sides. My dentist says I would have to have a private crown to replace it, as its only a cosmetic problem. however, surely a less than complete crown is a little more than cosmetic. I have also developed a gum boil above the tooth now and I beleive this is becuase the slimmed down crown has allowed food to compact and enter the gum. where can I find a copy of the rules for NHS dentristy in regards to crowns? thank you
A.
I am not an NHS dentist so do not know their rules and regulations. However if your dentist is an NHS dentist he will have an information booklet he can give you or you can look at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/

Q. I am a 42 year old woman and have dreadful teeth. I only have 13 original teeth left and wear dentures, which i love because they are beautiful and white. My other teeth are full of holes and broken and yellow, Why won’t my dentist take all the rest of my teeth out and give me a full set of dentures. This is what i would really like done and no one will help me! WHY?
A.
You existing teeth help hold the denture in place and make it much more comforable for you to eat and talk. They also retain the bone that stops your gum from shrinking. If you would have the rest of your teeth extracted I think you would find that the denture would be most uncomfortable and you would have to get it relined frequently as your gum would shrink.
It is also unethical to extrct teeth that are healthy.

Q. My question is about my lower teeth, 4 to 5 of them are overcrowded but also some are kind of chipped but do not have a hole in them. Is there a way to get them to line up in every way?
A. You could have the teeth straightened and then have the chipped teeth re built. You need to have a consultation to see what options are available.

Q. Hello I had bulimia in the past and my teeth are heavily damaged, the front teeth especially have lost enamel and left ugly yellow marks that brings down my confidence. I am considering teeth whitening. Would this make the yellow marks disappear? Thank you for your time
A. I have treated a number of bullimic patients and if all the enamel has been removed the teeth will not whiten, better option is bonded fillings or porcelain veneers or crowns.

Q. I have no enamel on my teeth and find it very frustrating when I smile that my teeth are yellow,is there a way to brighten them without distroying them? I also am going through having every tooth filled as due to lack of enamel, I have a lot of cavities, but the fillings do not always stay in and have to be replaced, is there a way to coat my teeth to protect them as the enamel would normally? Thank you!
A. If this is the case you might be beter to consider more permanent solutions such as veneers or crowns, ask your dentist if this might work.

Q. I have had an infection for the last 5 months above a tooth. My dentist says i require an apisectomy. Are there any possible complications that I should be aware of. Also I have had chronic gum swelling, in another area, and wondered if herpes zoster could be a possibility as I sometimes get this on my lip. Many thanks
A.
Please consult your dentist on the pros and cons of his treatment plan as it is impossible for me to comment without assessing your mouth and seeing your x-rays.

Q. Hi, My 12 year old daughter is in the middle of her braces treatment. Her orthodontist noticed that she has 2 missing upper teeth (I think they are the premolars.) Now that her lower premolars are coming out, the orthodontist suggest that she has them removed. He said that number of teeth on her upper should be the same amount as her lower. I wonder if that’s true. Right now my daughter’s x-ray should that she has 2 bottom molars that have not come out yet but no sign for her other upper molars. She now has 10 teeth on the upper and 12 on her lower bridge. I’m worried that if I have the other 2 lower teeth removed she will not have enough teeth in the future! What is your opinion?
A. If she is crowded then removal of the teeth is indicated. When all the teeth come through she won’t miss the premolar teeth. Talk it through with your orthodontist before you proceed with treatment

Q. i have a partial denture as my front tooth came out it makes me feel sick im always gagging on it and i dont really talk to anyone anymore as im so paranoid i have alot of bad teeth and really want to get them sorted out but i am very nervous of dentists.
A. The only way to correct this problem is to book an appointment with a dentist. They can adjust this for you or have a new denture made.

Q. following some failed (and negligent) dental treatment i require an implant in the lower left second molar area. i’ve had some consultations with implant surgeons, some of whom have told me it’s not usually desireable to place implants in this area. i’m interested to know if you feel it is usually possible to place implants in this area? if so, how many have you personally placed? and what success rate do you have for placements in this lower second molar region? many thanks
A. we show very high success rates for implants in the lower molar region. Around 98-99% over 10 years. This is all dependent on the amount of bone tou have available so we would scan the jaws without CT scanner prior to treatement so you have a clearer idea of your long-term success.
Let me know if you would like to come to see me, my e-mail is implant@advancedentalclinic.com
