What would be the cost of treatment crown whitening cleaning

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Q. I have been a sufferer of bulimia nervosa for about 8 years now and have suffered very severe enamel erosion as a result of it – I haven’t been to see the dentist in a long time because I know my mouth is a disaster area and until I have managed to recover I don’t want any dental work done that I might later wreck again. I imagine my mouth is full of cavities etc so that will have to be treated and I was also wondering what the cost of cosmetic treatment would be? At the very least I would guess I need crowns on upper front teeth (front 6 at least) because they are transparant at the edges – every tooth in my mouth has a greyish discolouring where my teeth are turning transparant at the tips and are mostly yellow everywhere else so I will most likely need cleaning and whitening too. Could you estimate the cost of this treatment? Is treatment even possible do you recon? Thank you for your time.

A. I have experience treating patients with severe loss of enamel due to various types of acid damage.  Often crowns are required due to enamel damage on the inside surfaces of the teeth.  Due to the tongue position when you are being sick the damage is often limited to the upper teeth.  Treatment in the past has cost from £6000 depending on how many teeth need to be treated. I also make a mouth guard that you can wear to protect your teeth during your illness. Please visit me for a free consultation if you wish to discuss this further.

I ve teeth discoloration will zoom whitening work?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Q. I was born with a discolouration on my teeth (a slightly yellowy checkered effect up close) due to how I passed through the birth canal or something like that! Would zoom whitening work on my teeth or would this only emphasise the problem? Thanks

A. hi many thanks for your email, with such intrinsic staining there are two outcomes with tooth whitening, the first is the problem will decrease and the staining will blend, the second outcome is that the whitening will emphisize the problem. the main concern is that until you try you wont know.

hope this is helpful.

I ve discoloured teeth can I still ve teeth whitened?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Q. Hiya, my teeth developed without the enamel being there when i was younger and i’ve been left with ugly discoloured teeth. Am i still able to have my teeth whitened?

A.

If you have amelogenesis imperfecta it is unlikely that bleaching will help.  You will need some type of porcelain restoration to replace your missing enamel

How can I get rid of white stains?

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Q. After two nights using NiteWhite ACP 22% I noticed white stains on my teeth. Should I continue with the whitening or will the white stains get even worse and more noticeable? How can I get rid of these white stains? Is it possible to get an even color now or are these white stains staying ? Can the dentist get rid of them ?

A. The white stains are areas of enamel that were white before you started treatment but at a level that was not noticable.  They become more pronounced during treatment but blend back in once bleaching is stopped

Is its good to whiten my teeth before placing new veneers?

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Q. hi, im thinking of getting the replacement veneers. i had them for 15 yrs now. i was wondering, is it a good thing for a dentist to whiten my teeth (ones that have veneers) before placing the new veneers. some dentist said that it’s a good idea because it would deminish the grayish effect after the veneer is placed. and wont make my teeth very sensitive since it’s been grinded due to veneers?

A. Whitening is more for the teeth without veneers if you do like their colour get whitening then have the veneers replaced.

What would you recommend to fix my buck teeth and whiten my teeth?

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Q. Hey Dr. Solanki I have two big buck teeth that really bother me they are way big and have a gap in the middle but the rest of my teeth are pretty much straight just those two and my teeth also arent the whitest what would you recommend to fix my buck teeth and whiten my teeth?

A. hi many thanks for your email, the two options to fix your buck teeth are braces or veneers, the braces are more conservative but the treatment may take longer, the veneers are a much quicker fix but hav the draw back of the teeth needing to be filed down and also the veneers will need replacing every 10-15 years. the whitening treatments i would recommend is zoom2 whitening or enlighten.

Is there a method of whitening the inside of the tooth

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Q. One of my front teeth is grey but it is still alive. The tooth is not stained; the discolouration has happened as a result of bleeding inside the tooth. Is there a method of whitening the inside of the tooth (as I presume whitening the outside of the tooth is pointless). I do not want to have veneers. I would be grateful for your opinion? Thank you for your time.

A. You need the tooth to be assessed with an x-ray if it has darkened it could be due to previous accident where the tooth was knocked.  The inside can be cleaned out often needing a root canal treatment and then whitened.

How will teeth whitening affect on composite

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Q. Dear Dr. Patel, How will teeth whitening affect on teeth where there are used composite, like front teeth? Will you get a different in “whiteness”? Do you rather have to place lumineers to avoid this? Thank you for taking your time. Best regards,

A. Composites often need to be replaced after whitening you don’t always need to have veneers unless you really don’t like the colour and shape of your teeth.

Methods for teeth whitening other than veneers Plz advice

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Q. One of my 15 year old daughter’s front teeth is dark grey. Her dentist says it is as a result of bleeeding inside the tooth, but it is still alive and recommended tooth whitening (smile-x) on just that one tooth. The tooth is not stained; the discolouration has happened inside of the tooth and so I don’t see how whitening the outside of the tooth will help. Is there any method of possibly whitening the inside of t

he tooth? I do not want her to have veneers. What is your opinion? Thank you for your time.

A. You cannot have internal bleaching on a tooth that has not had root canal treatment. I recommend you have this tooth x-rayed and ask your dentist to do a pulp test. If the reason for the tooth discolouration is internal bleeding, the tooth is definately dead. In this case it need to have a Root Canal, you then can try internal bleaching.

A. Whitening toothpastes have limited whitening effects the best way is too professionally whiten your teeth through your dentist.  Some whitening toothpastes can be abrasive and cause damage to your teeth.

I had bulimia Will the yellow marks disappear by teeth whitening?

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Q. Hello I had bulimia in the past and my teeth are heavily damaged, the front teeth especially have lost enamel and left ugly yellow marks that brings down my confidence. I am considering teeth whitening. Would this make the yellow marks disappear? Thank you for your time

A. I have treated a number of bullimic patients and if all the enamel has been removed the teeth will not whiten,  better option is bonded fillings or porcelain veneers or crowns.

I m 18 can I have treatment for my teeth at NHS?

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Q. Dear Dr. Patel, At the age of around 12 I chipped my front tooth after a fall leaving less than half of my front tooth behind. I had a filling applied to this, but the tooth has gradually darkened over time. I’ve heard that this is due to internal bleeding within the tooth. Yesterday, this filling fell out and I am yet again left with half a tooth. The tooth in question is a few shades darker than my other front tooth and it looks very bad. I’m an 18 year old on a gap year, with no money at all. Would the NHS be able to help with my problem because it really looks awful? Thank you

A. You should be able to get NHS treatment you might need a root canal treatment and maybe a crown, or a bonded filling and internal tooth whitening.

What would be the rough estimated cost of cosmetic surgery?

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Q. Hello, I am thinking of undergoing cosmetic surgery but I want to get a rought estimate of the cost. I have many health problems which have affected my teeth. From a young age, I am on calcium replacement and because of this condition, from a young age, it has affected my teeth really badly. The surface of my teeth is really rigid, they are also chipped in places and look worn out. There is also discolouration and regardless of how many times i brush them and use mouthwash, it has not chhanged in appearance. My gums also tend to bleed a lot, during brushing.. What are the treatments that I woud hav to undergo, how much on average would they cost and how long would they last for? I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Regards..

A. The treatment suitable for your case would depend on the position of your teeth. If you teeth are relatively aligned, then Veneers could be the treatment for you. Veneers can change the shape, colour and size of your teeth and can also correct gappy and slightly crowded teeth.
If your teeth are very crowded then you may have to have some orthodontics beforehand.
Without seeing your mouth it is impossible for me to give you an accurate opinion. You are very welcome to book a consultation with me at my clinic Umbrella. For more info please see www.umbrellasmiles.com
